It is the long way around if you want to do it that way. I would just download the 2.3.3 rooted stock rom from here(odex version), make a nandroid of your current setup, wipe cache, data, and dalvik-cache then flash the rom. You will be running the same rom as the OTA without updating your hboot version.

Also, if you are looking to update you might check out the roms that include Sense 2.1 and 3.0 which the OTA did not include. Neither of those versions of Sense are going to officially come to our phones but we can get the installed and running perfectly thanks to the AWESOME devs out there.

No, I agree with everyone here. I'd just flash the GB rom. Updating will A) take longer and B) probably has a greater chance of messing something up (though both are extremely unlikely).

I'm gonna trust u guys 1 I have never flashed a custom rom to my rooted phone so this would b a time to start and 2 can u guys send me in the direction

Okay, check out the rooting for dummies guide. It has the answers to the questions that you haven't even asked yet! It's a really good thread, with lots of top notch info. Also, the Gingerbread root thread by Ocn is good. It has more info than just with rooting GB, it also has flashing roms and recovery files.

I just thought updating was a safer way to get all the updates the way it should b so even if I did the ota I would b fine but lose my hboot right and I would of course b on a stock rom right

The link in one of my previous posts is to the stock rooted rom that came with the 2.3.3 OTA. You can start there and make a nandroid afterwards so you have a current set up saved. MikG 2.45 is an outstanding rom that is based on the 2.3.3 update but has Sense 2.1 included along with some of the things that Sense 3.0 roms have. It is very stable and everything works so you won't be losing anything but the bloatware that sprint includes in there updates. If you have not done much as far as flashing on your phone, I would read the Rooting for Dummies guide in the after rooting section. It has alot of information about it and is an invaluable resource.

Very good sir I will get to reading I just flashed a rom cuz it looked to complicated and u had update everything one by one but I'll check it out

Here are the basics to flashing roms.

Download the rom of your choice and put it on your sdcard. The root of the card makes it the easiest to find.
Boot to recovery, make a nandroid backup(a good habit to get into if you are going to flash things), wipe cache, dalvik-cache, and user data. Flash the rom. reboot and enjoy. Some roms take a bit longer to boot up especially the first time so be patient.
