Root Question about root and ota updates.

I've done some research on the matter but I'm not sure if I am understanding it correctly so I'm hoping for some help.

I'm looking to root my device and unlock the bootloader but keep the rest stock, my question is if I can still accept ota updates and keep it rooted and have the bootloader unlocked without doing the whole process over?

And if I have to sideload the updates would that always format the device where I would need to set everything up again?

Lastly, is there a process to update my device without it formatting it.

Thanks in advance and I hope I didn't butcher the terminology up too much as I'm still learning.

As long as the stock recovery is intact, you should be fine.
