Root Question about rooting Hong kong version

I have the HTC desire hong kong version, and was wondering if anyone has rooted and put froyo on there phone? I was reading the instructions for rooting it and it says "This guide lets you root only a HTC Desire which has a bootloader version of 0.75 or below.", there is also a link for "If you have a bootloader version 0.83 or above then use this guide instead.", but i have bootloader version 0.80. Can i use this guide??

I have a Canadian Telus version Desire which I would like to root. Mine has HBOOT 0.83.001. Can I still use the above link?

What's the easiest & safest way to root Desire. There are couple of guides to root Desire in this forum. Which one should I follow? I am quite scared to do so since I am a newbie to smartphone. Thank you in advance.
