Question about the emoji keyboard

This is from the Swype Forum where it's obvious that user's have to swap between keyboards to utilize emojis.

I have a new keyboard WITH emojis
I purchased($0.99) the Swype app(couldn't find where updating existing an option) and chose it in my Input Settings so it would be recognized, which it prompts you through. Looks like the 3rd link above is for a seperate messaging app., Handcent, that has good reviews.
