Root [Question] Anyone have an S-ON EVO LTE?

My buddy is requiring some assistance w/ flashing a ROM on his EVO LTE, but I have no actual experience w/ S-ON devices since all of mine were S-OFF.

From what I understand, you'll need to install the kernel separately from the ROM. Could I just unzip the ROM and pull the boot.img?

He wants to use MeanBean, but it's staying stationary at the splash screen.

Update: I realized after the fact that he's still on ICS firmware, which explains why the ROM won't boot. I'll have to figure out how to get a ICS/JB RUU, so I can update him.

Surprised that MeanBean isn't using Haus' s-on kernel installer.

MeanBean actually does have Haus' super special installer baked in, but I realized it was the lack of required firmware that was causing the issue.

Ah, yeah, my bad, you noted that earlier.

Yeah, I was getting no end of JB trouble just testing out the stock one - it booted but after that, the sky was the limit on weird stuff - that cleared up when I upgraded my firmware, so, yeah you're dead right.

We have the RUU available, but it has given me lots of troubles getting it to work right.

Is the JB RUU encrypted? I heard HTC locked up the RUU's as of JB, so I'm just curious if I should make him RUU back to ICS, then manually update or go straight to JB.

You cant RUU backwards.

i dont think the RUU is encrypted. I'm not sure why they would do that

Looks like I'll be RUU'ing back to stock using 2.13 then.
