My wife and i are getting the EVO in a week and we are very happy to get this great phone, but after reading alot of different topics and threads i want to know......
1)is it possible to get a good days use out of the stock battery?
2)if so whats the best settings for it?
3)with or without a task manager?
4)if extended battery is better im willing to pay. Just what would be the best settings? I personally will use it as much as i can during a day.

They both will not be rooted. Thank you for any answers. I know you get these alot but i want to be able to use the phone the best way possible.

Without rooting, the only way to get a full day is to turn off all internet (3g, 4g, and wifi) for at least half of the day. I have found that with those on, it kills the battery.

WITHOUT!!! Task killers are NOT needed with android 2.2 and above. They actually make things worse.
 
I've had my Evo since last July. I ordered a package from a Hong Kong seller on Ebay that has two batteries and a wall charger for them. Total price including shipping? $9.99 US
If you are worried about Hong Kong batteries, don't. I can't tell the difference in how long they last from the stock battery. The seller has a VERY high rating and has treated me great so far.

I just use the first battery until it gets low (about 5-6 hours depending on usage) and turn it off and pop in a new one. Very easy and the Iphone users at work frown with jealousy. :) (You can't change a battery on an Iphone)

I've found with my wife's phone though that nothing has to be done if she controls updating by apps themselves. Since we're not Facebook, Twitter, or email addicted, simply making sure apps update only when turned on and as infrequently as possible work. GPS was a bit of a hog for me, and ShopSavvy always turned it on even when I wasn't using the app so I uninstalled SS.

I don't do anything with my settings. I use wifi to surf at home, 4G to surf when out and about in 4G area, and 3G just turns on when necessary (not using wifi, for calls, and if not using 4G). I have to recharge every other day, but that's with a lot of use. I use my phone as my primary communication and quick info surfing device. Getting the Seidio has been the #1 BEST personalization I've done to my Evo. It fits in the Seidio Innocase II holster even with the Extended Snap Case cover.

I rarely use BT (I prefer wired phones in all situations except driving), and I personally found BT to be the biggest power consumer, followed by 4G, and Wifi. I don't count Android and Display because those aren't thing you can turn on/off.

The other critical thing is to keep your PRL and Profile updated so that you're always with the best connection to the Sprint towers.

@Ringmaster- My wife just wnats to beable to go on Facebook and check her email,lol.So i will turn certain things off for her and try it out. I instead want to be on it as much as i can. I have been checking out the Seidio 3500 Extended Battery and also the Seidio Innocase II holster even with the Extended Snap Case cover. My thing is how big does that make the phone? If you dont mind me asking, Can i see a pic of yours so i see can actual one being used not like how Amazon has there pics? i mean how big the EVO is with all that on, thanks for the reply it helped me out.

I will try and pop back in with some specific links tomorrow. Ringmaster and sitlet are correct..there are plenty of things that you can control and conserve Baterry life. I believe my average on the stock battery prior to rooting and buying an extended battery with mild to heavy use was about 10-12 hours.
Keep in mind that increasing usage will deplete that quickly...I had 6-8 hour days as well. Even with the extended battery I keep a charger at work..a car charger and a double of spare usb cables here and there. Check amazon.com for package deals. We both have htc phones and got a ton of chargers/cables for roughly. $ 12
 
I don't have pix, but you can see a side by side with regular and extended on this short YouTube clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQT51NdcO6M Doesn't show the snapcase, but the snapcase is the same thickness as the Innocase II but shaped for the extended battery. Somewhere on one of the other threads reviewing the Seidio 3500 someone put up a vid with all the photos you might be interested.
