Help Question from a prospective DNA owner

I am trying to decide between the DNA and the Samsung Galaxy S III. I currently have a Droid Incredible (the orignal) and need to upgrade!

I have a Mac computer and I was told by a Verizon Wireless representative today that both of those phones are incompatible with Mac.

Is that true?

I agree with skip, never listen to a Verizon associate

Unfortunately the training skills of the reps varies widely. Yesterday when picking up my DNA the guy tried to sale me a charging cover and didn't know the phone has the charger imbedded into the case. He also tried to convince me the battery was 2500. As the store was too busy I walked him through the phone, its specs and a quick summary of its reviews to dates........

LOL I did the same thing, he claimed they just got them in the night before and had no training on them. They didn't even have the phone on display yet. He kept asking me about all the key features and when I showed him the wireless charging, (they had an LG pad on display) he immediately called 2 other VZW employees to show them my phone charging!

Same experience with lack of knowledge. The guy argued with me about it containing expandable memory. I also had to show him where the SIM card slot was.

A few weeks back when I was considering the Razr HD, they tried telling me the Razr M had the same size screen. That is inexcusable, lol.

The guy at my store knew a little about it, he atleast knew of the phone, but he also did the sd card for more room comment, which i let go. They atleast had all the stuff for advertising it up in the store, shame the store is so iPhone happy that they rarely allow people to head to the droid section of the store, they stop them near the iPhones and thats about it for most of them.

Actually I must say I had two CSRs helping me, and they both were knowledgeable about the phone.

I told the rep at my verizon store that I was upgrading from a thunderbolt, and he went on and on about how the thunderbolt is such a good phone and he has never heard anything bad about it.

This experience is I think the exception........it would not take more than 10 minutes for a review of two to three phone gadget writer reviews on each phone to be able to adequately explain the pros and cons of each phone, manufacturer and overall spec's........I did find the corporate customer service support staff very knowledgeable about the DNA and other competing phones....... I think the dealer retail training requirements are really inconsistent and it is sad because so many people ( unlike us ) go into these stores with relatively little knowledge of the hardware spec's and software options and often leave with a phone ill-suited to their needs

Looks like it should be compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux. So you should be good to go.

Thank you so much! I'm assuming you were only referring to the DNA. Online searches lead me to believe that there are some major issues when trying to use the Samsung Galaxy S III with a Mac computer.

You all are extremely helpful and you're right, reps can be wrong very often. This particular rep wanted to chit chat more than be informative/helpful. In fact, when I told her I was trying to decide between the SGS3 and the DNA, she admitted to having no experience at all with (and very little knowledge of) the DNA, but still rattled on in helping me decide. She basically started reading all the specs that I can clearly see for myself on their web site.

Anyway, thanks so much for your input, guys. I'm going to search this forum some more to see how everyone feels (positive thoughts + negative) about the DNA. It's such a new phone, I want to be certain I'm making the right decision!

I am a little off put by the low storage, but it's more than what my current phone has. I'm also sad about not getting the superior camera (SGS3), but from what I've learned, the SGS3 has a weak signal, the glass is exceptionally fragile and shatters easily, and quite possibly isn't compatible with Mac.

I just wish the DNA, SGS3, & the iPhone 5 could have a baby made of all their best features.

Hey, guys. I am on the phone with Verizon again. The rep I am speaking with this time is, yet again, verifying that neither of these phones are Mac compatible.

She wants me to ask you guys if you have a Mac computer and how you are able to make your phones work with the Mac.

Thanks!

Another update: I just spoke to HTC directly (why didn't I do this in the first place?).

He said that "technically" it is NOT compatible with a Mac but that is only because of specific built in apps that are unable to sync.

He said that I should still be able to plug the phone into my computer and load/unload files through the disk drive as always.

They seriously do NOT train the Verizon reps well enough...
