Root Question RE: miui music app and an observation.

Okay, for the question, the miui music app, does it require root access? In other words, can I send the .apk to another phone (not rooted)?

Now, for a rather interesting observation I made.
The EVO androidforum general section is much less active than the EVO Root section. I wonder if this holds true with other phones.

Going to compaire the Epic 4g and something else. Maybe evo shift?

Evo. Today - April 4. 135 Pages total.
Evo Root. Today - May 6th. 80 Pages total.

Epic: May 5 - April 18. 22 Pages total.
Epic Root: Today - April 22. 8 Pages total.

Shift: Today - March 11. Four pages total.
Shift Root: Today - January. Two pages total.

((some of these dates may be off a bit))

So, it seems that on all phones, the main page has more posts. This should be expected. However, the the Root section does not seem to be related to the General page in regards to activity.

The Evo root page is only three days old at the latest, while the evo shift is months old at it's latest. It is important to note that, dispite having less total pages than the general section, the root section always is more active (in these three).

Interesting eh?
This was from a notepad doc I was writing up due to boredom and curiosity. That's why the beginning of it sounds like I am posing a question.

does the apk, when you install it on your phone, ask for SU permissions? uninstall it and reinstall it if ya cant recall. Youll know the answer once you do that :P lol and it seems to me that the root section of the evo forum is mad wicked crazy hoppin for the most part. Ive done some research for friends interested in rooting on other devices, and the depth of characters in the other forums (in my experience at least) doesnt even come close to that of our rEVOlutionary device.... thats why im always thanking the forumites and forum jedis all the time, cuz man.... id hate to have a galaxy s (regardless of which one) and have root issues.... this forum ROCKS!!

Yeah when you ask a question here it is answered in no time, I asked something on one of the galaxy s threads and didn't get an answer for two days.

Now back to the main topic, I don't think it requires root access, I do however think that you need an apk that will actually install some that I have tried don't including one I pulled directly from MiUi. I may have just gotten a bad install or something like that because I only tried once.

Thanks guys, I will probably just try make a nandroid of miui, then backup a sense rom, try it, and go back to miui.

Yeah, this forum in particular is very great. And helpful, I am curious if the forums for other phones are this helpful and, really, for the internet, this place is very kind. It makes me a bit happy to see that. Not everyone online is an angry 14 year old.

How are you going to back up the apk, are you going to just use TB or are you going to actually save the apk to the SD card and try to install it using the built in file explorer. I am just curious because if it works I would like to know what you did. I also might start doing a little bit of experimenting on my own.

I grabbed it from ADB some time last week, and threw it in my backup folder for apps (saved using astro file manager).
That's all I did as far as the apk file, I plan to simply do a couple of nandroid restores after a fresh backup. Simply enough. If it works I'll post back.
