Hello everyone Let me start of by saying I a new to this forum and this is my first post lol. But I have a question pertaining to Over-clocking your phone.

To my knowledge Over-clocking is like steroids for a short time you get a boost in performance but causes long term damage. Now I haven't actually gotten my phone yet but I plan to Root it ASAP to fix the screens choppiness. But I don't want to damage my phone permanently. So I was wondering if someone could tell me the benefits and side effects of Overclocking

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't think that overclocking can really damage your phone. unless you overclock your phone to high and then you get force closures all over the place. setting it to high can cause it to go into a boot loop as well. here is a good guide about setcpu. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/210253-setcpu-guide.html. it is an app that lets you overclock your phone.

as far as benefits go it just makes your phone snappy. and certain games and apps function slightly better. now the difference is very minute, but i can feel it. depending on the kernel, at least for me, it can also drain your battery the more you use it. i guess that goes with anything, but more so when it is overclocked. its not a battery hog or anything, but i noticed that on some kernels it will drain more the higher i clock it. but every kernel reacts differently on different phones so who know what it will be like for you.

and once you get your phone, you are gonna have to wait to root. an exploit has not been found yet. and here is why:You Can't Root Your Gingerbread 2.3.3. Evo....Just Yet

and while you wait to root read this about kernels as well:[GUIDE]
