Questions about Samsung Galaxy Tab

Lurker
I am leaning towards getting a samsung galaxy tablet.

They come with android 2.2, does anyone know if they are upgradeable when there is a new firmware released?

I am hard of hearing, so can anyone say if the sound volume is good or bad?

Sound volume is good... but the top volume wouldn't deafen me, not sure if that helps you much!It may be upgradeable, maybe not. If getting android 3.0 is a big factor, then I wouldn't suggest the tab as it might not get it.It is however, a great device.

The Tab WILL get 2.3(Gingerbread), will probably get 2.4(Gingerbread2), and maybe even Ice Cream Sandwich, but I would doubt if it got 3.0(Honeycomb) without third party release.

I would say the volume is good.

Since you put that in upper case, where did you hear it?

I have just had a quick demo of a tab in my local store and was quite disappointed! :(

The sound was not very loud and the salesman insisted it was at full volume.
I appreciate it was competing with all the other sounds in the store, but it didn't seem enough for my failing ears.

I also noticed that the touch screen was not very responsive. He was stabbing at it it frantically trying to demonstrate it and it sometimes took several touches to get it to respond.

Now this was a display model, so possibly it was just worn out by all the use it has had??? It was also, I believe clamped in a secure holder, so that could have been muffling the sound.

I will try and find a store which is much quieter and have another demonstration of the sound before I finally make a decision.

I realise I could plug in some speakers but I was hoping to avoid that.

Headphones are no good for me due to my hearing aid.

Probably just extremely run down due to kids/animals treating it like dirt :/

I've had mine since it pretty much came out and no issues at all with responsiveness.

The speakers are at the bottom, so maybe..

The sound seems to change, which seems weird. I'm in my office now and can't have it up past 1/2 volume while playing music but when I view movies from "media hub" I feel that I have to crank the volume (in headphones). I don't know. Take some headphones to the store with you to try.

I've had mine since late November and I have NO problems with the responsivness of the screen. None.

No responsiveness issues with mine as well. I've had mine since Black Friday 2010. Volume is pretty loud for my ears turned all the way up.

I wouldn't trust the sales person.... They normally only have the basics of ideas in how to use the hardware.

On the Tab you need to access the Menu to gain full control to all the sound functions.

There is also software such as Volume Ace which gives you greater control of all sound and audio.

I will try and find another store that can demonstrate the sound volume out of a security cradle.

I do suspect that it was muffling the sound.

When you do, get them to do the following:-
Hit Menu/Sound Settings/Volume
This will bring up a window that shows volume control for
Incoming Calls
Media Volume
Alarm Volume
System Volume
Notification Volume

Ensure they are all set at highest volume.

I always said I was expensive!

Sadly, nobody believed me. :(

I believe you......
My team are going to have a field day with my wallet on Monday.
They all have full access to checking this account and are going to love you. :D
