Root Questions About Unrooting

I really love my Evo and I love my Evo even more since it has been unrooted, but I really think that I should start all over again.

Has anyone unrooted after rooting their Evo via unrEVOked and if so, how so? And my current problem is that I was stupid and forgot to backup before rooting so now I am wondering if it is even possible to unroot now. I was also stupid and forgot to unroot before leaving the stock Sense UI to a new user-created ROM, so now my very first backup is of a Fresh ROM. If I unroot without going back to an original Sense UI, will I damage my phone?

Don't worry...I'll be back to root...I just need to redo all of my mistakes because I think I kinda messed up my phone along the way of learning :p

I'm not sure why you are un rooting but you def can you just flash the s-on tool and then the stock ruu from hboot. Phone will be back to box stock then you can to root again. Un rooting is on the rooting for dummies sticky too.need help ask away. Also make sure you dl the proper ruu for your phone this is based on your hboot version and software you have. You'll see what I'm talking about once you get into it.

Thank you again evomattnc!! I will surely do that.

Well...I think I messed up my phone in a few ways. Such as, my phone doesn't properly read backups anymore among a few other small, minor, fixable problems so I figured that if I can "undo" some of my mistakes that I made when I first rooted my phone by redoing the process over again. It may not work, it may, but it's worth a try. And maybe if it doesn't solve my problems, I can have Sprint take a look at it. I love a rooted Android phone too much to just leave the rooted family lol

Another question while I'm at it...does this also restore the stock Recovery that came with the phone, or is there an extra step to doing that?

Yeah I just didn't see the issue in not having back ups of stock we can always take you back to stock as long as you have a good back up with wimax then I'm not worried but it's totally up to you. As far as back ups not working I'm not sure there, of course ra and cw are incompatible....anyhow when you flash the pc36img for your proper ruu from hboot your phone will be exactly like when you bought it.

Great to know. It will erase everything and be like factory condition I'm assuming.

When I backup (I've been using Amon-Ra the whole time), I backup every choice they have except the last two options which is something about "sd-ext" and some other option. But I always back up "Cache", "WiMax", and the other stuff lol. I only made one backup in CW and I believe I may have deleted that or just can't find it on the SD card. Either way, I'm not trying to restore Amon Recovery using CW backups.

Okay, well sounds great so far. I'll look around for the RUU you talked about and see what I come up with.

The numbers that you said correlated to HBOOT, those, I can find in the HBOOT screen right? Towards the top there should be something up there to tell me what version I have?

I wasnt saying you were trying to restore them incorrectly lol just throwin it out there as i didnt know what your status was. Sorry I dont remember everyones set up exactly lol though i try.

I was just looking at the unroot section in the rooting for dummies in after rooting section 5. Its actually a good guide. It has a link to all the ruu files too. You'll need to correllate it to your hboot and your software version. Most sw is 3.70 now its not like youre taking it back to sprint so that doesnt matter so much. I wouldnt grab the 3.29 or below though as you'll have to upgrade radios to run 3.70 but if you run a 3.29 rom then go ahead...make sure you get the proper hboot rev though. Yes your rev is at the top when you go to hboot. its either .97, 2.02, or 2.10.

You dont really need every choice just BDS and one with wimax. when you rename dont use any special characters or anything, i just add "-CM7" to the end for example. This works for me...I back up sd-ext and cache because i run a2sd and dalvik from /cache so its necessary for me, not so much for you.

Yes, factory, just like HTC just made it and handed it to you except with slightly worn in ram now lol... Before you run the s-on tool make sure you dont have any apps frozen in Tib. Make a back up before you unroot too, JIC.

lol I know you weren't. I just threw that out there as extra information.

Ah, I just checked them all off just in case :P Never know haha I suppose it takes up more room though...Very good to know. I tried checking off the last two my very first time backing up and it gave me some weird message about it not allowing it or something. I don't know lol, I just checked them all off just in case I ran into any problems. But that's good to know for my next backup so I don't waste space. Is it possible that I could name them with spaces and caps and such like "Amon Ra Evio ROM"?

Awesome, thanks! I guess I'll head over to the Rooting for Dummies and be on my way to unrootdom lol Thanks again for the info. Very helpful.

Good luck on the road to unrooting my friend. Let me know how it goes.need anything just pop in.

Also I don't see anything wrong with spaces and caps. I'd still just add it on the end though...why do you need spaces and caps lol! :D.

Lmao, just curious. Truthfully, when not on forums or writing letters to my college professors, I hardly use any grammar or spelling or punctuation. But I wonder if the backup reading system is case sensitive or not more than anything.

Thanks. The guides here are usually pretty down and easy to understand, but if I need any help, I'll be sure to ask you

Well me or anyone lol. I don't know, make a small back up and use caps and spaces and smiley faces and see if it works....
