Help Questions regarding Speaker and Display

OK - we know now that the speaker volume can be either defective phone or just a software issue.

I've just gotten a bizarre set of observables -

Mostly, calls on speaker where nice and tinny. (meaning - not nice)

I've been dinking around with various apps, pushing the envelope, and rebooting as needed.

The other day - my speaker calls were loud and much more full of timbre than before - nearly Evo-like and totally acceptable. I spent the day on speakerphone for all my short calls.

Played with bad apps last night, rebooted - today my speaker calls are back to sounding weaker (acceptable, but weaker) in volume and way tinny.

Good news here is that this suggests to me that it's a software problem.

And - that whole "kill Spiderman and the media-volume-only behavior goes away" - looking at Spiderman, it's sharing memory with other apps (I've never even run it, but it's that way on mine).

So - it's possible that many of the sound problems we're facing are tangles in shared memory and certainly, borked bloatware (is there any other kind?) may be playing a hand.

What apps did you test other than EQ if any others ??

I wasn't testing sound apps at all. My observables were completely accidental.

I was just doing my Android thing and my mod thing - downloading apps that users in other forums here were having problems with, trouble-shooting, checking for spam apps, etc, etc - and then app hunting for my own fun and pleasure - and then re-installing where I don't care.

In the last day, I've tinkered with dozens of apps, from DavDrive to equation editors to cookbooks - you name it.

Only things I can think of that had to do with audio were iHeartradio and VEVO (which is kinda arcane by the way). But - that was coincidental to this, iHeartradio I just like and I was curious about VEVO (I usually get to my fav music vids by visiting YouTube on my browser with the UAString set to desktop so I avoid VEVO's mobile lockout but was just curious).

Wasn't trying to troubleshoot anything on the speaker, was just using it.

Folks keep posting in the HTC forum thread I created, maybe if we keep hounding them they will do something about it, Even though I am using EQ and has helped, it is still hard to hear the phone if your in another room, post and post again, every 2 days I reply to HTC by email in a email support thread I have with them and keep reminding them to read the thread I created, the more that post the better chance we have to have them do something about it, you can also call them and put in on the record. ;)

Guys and Gals, please post your volume issues, click HERE

OK so actually tried the Spiderman game this morning. Ever since, my media volume has been forced off. I wiped cache and did a normal reboot and that seemed to fix it. After trying the game again, the volume was off again. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? Does this have something to do with the download that was required before I could play the game?

This is a known issue - it hoses a lot of things.

Force quit it when it happens. It's possible that it's borking the shared memory it uses in a way that affects this function - and some suspect it's responsible for other woes as well.

Way, way poorly written app.

It's possible this thread is too broad to be easy to find or be useful.

Any thoughts on breaking this into separate threads or leaving alone, let me know here or via PM, thanks.

I just returned my E3d because of reception, call quality, and it heating up, speaker was awful on mine, so muffled, now back with evo 4g, major difference in call quality and reception

Im going to do the same exact thing for the same exact reason...im disappointed How the Evo3d turned out to be and Im a huge fan of the 4g

I am waiting on a replacement 3D from Sprint. Its on back order  so I am not sure when I will see it. I was told I will still have time to look it over an be considered in my 30 days. If I have the same issues again I will probably have to give up on this phone as well. Having worse call quality in the same locations as my Hero just isn't going to work for me.

I would guess it is related to defective phones. My wife and I bought our Evo 3D's at the same time. Her speaker is far quieter than mine. I haven't tried getting her MSL number and using that QPST program to increase the volume yet. If it really is a hardware problem, I'd rather they just replace the phone.

Everyone's mileage varies as does everyone' decision points.

I've yet to hear decent multimedia sound on a phone speaker in any case. I'm aware they've made surround-sound phones with purportedly decent speakers - I've just not heard them (and wish they would, for once, come out with a phone that adds features rather than simply trades them).

Alternatives are almost any headset for personal use and DLNA and MHL for other use cases.

I do recommend these, by the way -

Hope that helps!

I have the I-Home version of these. They deliver amazing sound for their size and are very compact.

Well, I went to the Sprint store Friday morning with my second Evo 3D. This time, I finally had one I could hear the ringer on and could hear the other person on the handset but they could not always hear me. Everyone kept telling me I sounded like I was under a pillow, very muffled and low. The techs at the store could hear it to. They told me to leave it with them for a few hours and they would run a diagnostic on it. I did and returned aout three hours later. They gave me a third new one. They confirmed that the second one did have issues they could not fix. I now have my third 3D phone and that's it. I will not get another one. If this one doesn't work out, I will go back to the 4G, like my wife has and loves.

After all this, I am convinced, there are no good 3D phones out there, with all sound and volume working as good as the 4G does. I think HTC blew it on this model for whatever reasons, confined space in which to work, taking shortcuts, complacency, etc. The strange thing about it is everything else about the phone is outstanding, it just doesn't function properly as a "PHONE."

I had posted these comments under another topic but I felt it was appropriate to repost them here.

Yes, by far, my biggest gripe was the fact that I could not hear the speakers, whether on headset or not.

I found two apps that fixed these issues.

For the headset issue I found volume boost.

For obtaining louder speakers, I tried voume+.

I am now VERY happy with the audio performance (I can even watch videos at the gym with my earbuds. Before, if ANYONE had a conversation around, I could not hear a darn thing!)

Hope this helps some of y'all out there!

Here is a good reason why you should call HTC about the speaker issue, here is a post from a member that posted in my thread over at the HTC forum, Report your issues here: Speaker and ear speaker volume too low - HTC EVO 3D (Sprint) - Android Forums - HTC Community

Ok, just got off the phone with HTC about the speaker being too low...they say it's not a known problem to them because no one has called them about it. So if you haven't called....call! They are in denial that the problem exist right now, probably because it's a hardware problem!

So i got my Evo 3D today and decided NOT to trade in my Evo 4g..As i brought my 3D home and compared it to the Evo 4g, i was really disappointing in the sound quality from the speaker as well as the display brightness level and color.

Display wise, the colors on the E4G seem to be richer no matter what setting it is at compared to the E3d. i even toggled auto on both and even manually set them both to max and in both cases the E4G display is richer in color and brighter... i know the E3D has a super LCD display so is it just my unit that is having some dim screen issues?

Speaker quality on the E3D is far from great, In my own experience while having a conversation using the speaker phone, the voices crack while at the loudest setting, and are not nearly as loud as they were on the E4g. Same goes for music and videos, sound is far superior on the E4G than on the E3D. Even with the SRS enabled, sound still isnt as loud as E4g, although it helps makes the quality richer than with the SRS off..

Has anyone else noticed the same things as mentioned above? could it just be my unit that is malfunctioning?
Every one is upset about the speaker on the evo 3d. I hope HTC throws out an update in the near future. What i do know is that their is an app called Volume+ approved by the android market. Im gonna install it from the web(the app is not free),my question is if the speaker is safe with this boost? Can it blow the speaker? Anyways im gonna try.
