Root Quick ? on HTCdev

ashade07

Newbie
Rooting noob here.

So I'm using the instructions in the [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide...

On the HTCdev site, I registerd, selected the "All Other Supported Models", Then when I click the "Begin Unlock Bootloader" button.... nothing happens!!! Arrrrg!

I tried using explored and firefox, neither worked. Any suggestions? Tried allowing pop-ups... no go. Is there a setting on my internet options or something? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As for now, I realize that I cannot move forward until I complete the unlock bootoader process.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!
you might have popup blockers turned on. you should get a popup window about voiding your warranty and other legal terms.

edit: i guess i cant read lol. i just checked it and it worked for me on chrome. check your internet settings again.

hmmmm... thanks! tried accessing the site on my phone, and got the popup you described. Will try again, but any suggestions will still be appreciated. THANK OU for the quick response!

using AVG... will try disabling it as well... gotta put the kid down for bed... back at it tom. super determined to win this battle... thanks again!

Just noticed that I'm not able to acces my inbox from my yahoo mail page.

Click on Inbox, Sent, Trash, etc... Nothing...

Whatever is causing this, is probably causeing that darn window in HTCdev to not open.

Any ideas?

Put all the settings back to default, restarted and whalla. The box opened. Thanks for the help, will continue with the process now. :)

try rebooting the computer. that is odd. and again make sure that your anti-virus is trurned off.

edit: just saw your new post. lol glad that part worked. now go and get your root on:D

Thanks... yet again! I do have the hboot 2.18 and 2.3.5, does it matter which software version I have (5.07.651.1 71ORD)?
In other words, I have (unfortunatley) reletivley recently updated my phone... is there any versions that CANNOT be rooted?

BTW... Ocnbrze, you are seriously on point!!! Greatly appreciate the response! I am determined to get this phone rooted. You, and your post, have been very helpfull.

5.07 is the most current version out right now and yes the guide you are using will work with what you have.

i'm just glad i can help. i was in your shoes a few years back when i found this site. i'm just paying it forward is all.

good luck and keep us posted.

Will do... with 60 hr. work weeks and a 3 yr. old, it's one step at a time. I've turned the 15 min. process into multiple hrs. of work... what a rookie. :) I hope it's worth it when i'm done!

Can this process be done in multiple steps without loosing functionality?

Like unlock the bootloader one day... A couple days later, the recovery... and another day or two later, flash a new ROM?

Only reason I ask, is because this has been taking me a lot longer than it should, and I'm very limited on the time I have (or am allowed to have :)) Don't want to start something that I won't have time to finish all at once.

Yes, just remember the htcdev method will wipe your settings/data tho.
But you can install recovery later without data loss.
The rom flash you can do later and that again will wipe your data.:)

Unlocked the bootloader, and installed the recovery! Yay!...

I thought that i backed up all my contacts at gmail, but when i sync my phone, only a handfull of them show up? Any suggestions?

Need to charge the battery for now... New rom coming soon! Any suggestions on the most stable user friendly rom?

so we have a list of roms and kernels that are stickied at the top of this forum. check it out:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html. in the list there a staff pick's section that has roms that are very stable and awesome. check it out.

also please read the seconf post as there is more info on roms and kernels.
