Root Quick Question ABout Darktremors

LittleRedDot

Android Enthusiast
I ran the reinstall script and the cachesd script as described in the guide, and the phone did what was described in the guide, but I have the same amount of system memory that I did before hand.... Leading me to believe that it didn't work. I checked the commands listed on FB, but I didn't see one that answered my question...

How do I know if the apps have been moved to the SD card?

I never used dark tremmors before, and generally dont care for apps2sd... (im too cheap to buy a fast sd card:D) But... I would think u could use a file explorer to see whats on the sd.... just my thoughts...

I dont think your system ROM will change what changes is your SD card, and sd card a2sd, after you run the script, all programs you install should go to the SD card now, and just leave a small script on internal memory telling the phone how to access the program....Im sure someone will chime in here more knowledgable about this...I was pretty confused too, but I know its working, download a big program like angry birds and you will see the change.

As a user of 2 phones with little to no storage space I have used dark tremors quite a bit, /system will stay the same the change will be in /data/app
here is how it works if you use a file explorer, I use root explorer go into /data it shows you how much is space is used and available in that partition when you go into /data/app you are automatically linked to the ext partition on your sd card so now it will show different numbers(providing it was installed correctly) these numbers will be the size you made the partition and the used space there.
If you want to look further you can go to /system find a folder called /system/sd in there you will find the same folders you find in /data/
specifically /data/app /data/app-private /data/davlik-cache and /data/lost+found

I just open titanium and look at the first screen that shows your system info...if you have three bars it's not working. If there are 4 with one labeled as a2sd then it's working.

I ran the remove command and redid the install and cachesd commands, and after that my free system memory went from 128mb to 356mb... It's working now.

I have the gui program installed but noone round here seemed to be able to tell me how to work it... Now that I've read the FB post I think I can work the program.

If you run into problems, or just have questions hit me up, I know most of what it does from trial an error :D

Ok, I just partitioned my card for the first time this week, so I'm very new to a2sd... everything went great on MikG (all my apps went to the sdext), but today I decided to go back to Energy, and everything went haywire:

I followed evo4noob's instructions here to get it working... then I restored my apps through TB... and it restored them to BOTH "/data/app/" AND "/system/sd/app/" !!

So... thoughts on what I need to do next? Do I have to start all over?

ok to clarify this is what you did

a2sd working this is the process you should follow flash rom then reboot let the rom settle in then go back to recovery and under mounts in recovery mount sdcard then flash Dark Tremors a2sd. Download Terminal Emulator from tweaks or market type su(enter) a2sd reinstall(enter) phone will reboot
If this is the case then you should be fine
/system/sd/app IS /data/app

when you go into that folder with your file explorer you are actually going to the sd card the rom and all the file managers think they are in /data/app but look at the free space and used space and then go to /data and see the difference.

This is just to show you what I am talking about,
shot_000001.png

This is /data notice the 59mb used 100mb free
shot_000002.png

ok this is /data/app notice the 134mb used 345mb free

shot_000004.png

/system you can see the free and used lol
and the /system/sd
shot_000006.png

and fnally the /system/sd/app

as you can see it looks like the /data/app

Yes, that is what I did... unfortunately, after installing my apps from TB, my internal memory dropped from over 200mb to 40mb, so I'm certain something went wrong in the process... I've noticed some folks around the web have simply reflashed DT and got it to work... so I may go through the process again.

hmm, well I updated my post with pics however if your internal memory went down then your correct you did not do something, did you move the dalvik-cache to sd?
with the dalvik on internal data that will decrease your space and depending on how many apps you have could be a whole heck of a lot of space

by the way which internal memory?

/data or /system?

I actually didn't do anything with dalvik. So I'm trying to go back and trace my steps to see what happened... but it may just be easier to flash fresh and try again at this point... because some apps aren't showing up in my app drawer, yet are showing as "installed" in the market... so I obviously missed some very crucial step(s).

I just flashed a new rom and ran into the same problem, so I went back and completely re-did the process, it worked like a charm.

A little off topic but I found while TB gave more options, My Backup Root was simply much easier to use, and hasn't let me down yet. I read a lot of questions related to using TB, so maybe consider switching backup & recovery apps.

Just want to follow up in case anyone had questions similar to me:
I reflashed and was having the same issues... But reading around some threads I realized that most ROMs with dt installed automatically move davik to sd as well. So I used the a2sdgui app included in Energy to move davik to sd, freed up a ton of space, and everything seems to be running well. :)
