So I have been reading all morning on how to root my Evo. I am so lost. Let me simply ask this. All I want is Vanilla Android with Gingerbread and Tethering. Does this room exist. I don't need 4g. Thanks

Yes it does...are you reading the rooting for dummies sticky? I suggest it if not.

You might want to head over to xda. I think someone recently put out a vanilla gingerbread rom based on the leaked OTA. You can always get the Wireless Tether app from the market.

That there is. As far as vanilla android roms I assume you mean without sense so you need an aosp rom. The most vanilla is omgb and omfgb. You should also try cm7 and evervolv, if you like either of those two they have a lot more out there with those as a base but they should be a starting point for android open source
