Root Ran a2sd reinstall - Market and other apps GONE

I have installed Icarus w/ A2SD with NO problems 3-4 times, and actually thought I had a2sd down pretty well.

Well This time I run a2sd check - It tells me all Apps are running from internal mem.

So, I ran a2sd reinstall - came back up - NO MARKET (ICON and everything), along with any app I installed since putting on icarus.

Now, this was the 2nd time- I backed up Vending.apk + update in Titanium backup, but could not get it. from the web.

Then I actually found the apk using root explorer and moved it to the sd before running reinstall, BUT, It wouldn't installed said "Trouble Parsing file"

I then d/l CM6 unzipped in on the pc and found the vending /market files. These files were put on the SD, but again, they would NOT run and install.

Just to make sure, I did put a few apps on, and they are def. going internal. Prior to this I had the Dalvik and everything on the SD, worked perfectly,
I have NO CLUE what is going on and how I can get them.

Now, It wouldn't give me terminal or titanium BU on the PC market, because it said I had them, and would not overwrite. I wondering if I go to apps and Uninstall them, then try to get them from the web again?

TOKE: I did try your idea with the CM6. I also ran a2sd repair, it immeditaly restarted my phone, but came back ok.

It's running fine now, just using the internal memory. A2SD is one of the biggest reasons I like using this so I am anxious to figure this out....

Any thoughts???

FInally made a nandroid, so I don't have to rebuild every time, although havn't tried yet. Wanted to see what people here have to say first.....

Take care....Jeff

This also happened to me before I flashed cm6. Basically to fix it I started over..wipe and flash again. On the first boot many recommended you remove your SD card. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the thought all you guys........Anduiril.....Thanks, yea give it some extra thought if you can. I'm right now going to redo it for the hopfully final time. I gutted everything, reflashed to stock. cleaned as much as I could.

The bad thing is, I got a notice on the top bar, dragged it down, UPDATE for ROM MANAGER....I ran it and it rebooted and boot looped and jammed up the phone. Had to pull the Battery....couldn't get it to restart right.

So from there I had to redo everything and since then it's never worked again.

Before that - I thought I had a2sd down like a champ. I was giving advice. I had done the reinstall command, done everything. I worked so well for me I LOVED IT. Had the Dalvik running from it.....Now there is just no getting it going again.

just for a final question. When I run A2SD check, it "SHOULD" say I have (or it sees the a2sd flag) and apps are running from the card. Now it always says Apps running from Int memory, to fix run a2sd reinstall. This is where EVERYTIME I get a boot loop. I can pull the card get a boot, then put it in and reboot, but when I run check, it did not move apps over. PLUS I've lost every single installed file.

I believe they are not lost as in gone from the phone, just maybe moved to the EXT as it should, but the problem is in the symbolic link to the GUI, so I can use them. Because If I try to reinstall say terminal (HAVE to do it form the card as the Market is gone), but it says I have it already, even though it's not shown.

Also, I got Root Explorer.apk to the card and it allowed me to install. Went in and got Vending.apk to get market going, but when I tried to install it said problem "Parsing" the file???

Many other files, I try to install, they go thru I approve, the that bar across the screen showing like it's installing, then it just comes up......."Your application was not installed"

STRANGE.

Anyway. I'm going to do a final from scratch build. Funny(not really thing) 1st time I put Icarus on, It went right according to the instructions...after that I had a few problems here and threre, but always had it running fine.

Now this time...NO way No How....SHIT...it just stinks, since this phone has very little internal memory, a2sd is huge for me. I can even deal with the speed issues of the stock, but I just love a2sd.....???

Cricket has the new model I think Optimus C....runs 2.2 Froyo...Problem is I would be paying just to go to 2.2, no other upgrades significant enough to make it a good buy.

I've been thinking about buying an old Droid X or something have it flashed to Cricket, BUT alot of the people that do those flashed use special ROMS so they run well on cricket, meaning, no playing around like now....??? time will tell

Anyway, sorry this was so long, just venting. I appreciate everyone giving me the support.

THANK YOU.
JEFF

Just a thought, but when you updated ROM manager, did that also update the cwm? Since icarus needs the older version of cwm could that be causing a problem?

No....Rom Manager is an app, BUT, if you mess with it it is easy to flash an update to CWR, but I didn't even run it, I started to and it crashed.

THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED: Bottom line Gutted, reflashed, reinstalled everything, now it's fine, but couple things in different order, details following:

Funny thing....I once read that the definition of STUPIDITY is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result... Well, I guess I'm Stupid.
I have it TOTALLY FIXED. Maybe I did something a little different BUT:
GUTTED my SD CARD: Used Ubuntu to erase the EXT partition, put them into one FAT32 partition, then formatted it in Windows.
Flashed the phone back to stock-
Downloaded ONLY terminal and used to put on CWR.
Booted to CWR went thru everything and flashed Icarus - BUT WITHOUT PARTITION OF THE CARD. Wanted to get a clean boot let the Dalvik build first. It booted fine with the card in, nothing on it at that point.
Re-ran CWR - This time partitioned the card
Rebooted no problem.
Ran a2sd check - apps still on internal memory....so I knew Crap I have to "reinatall" which is what got me every time.
First this time, I ran a2sd REPAIR no prob
Ran a2sd reinstall -where I lost all installed stuff every other time.....Funny the last line on terminal was "rebooting phone", but the phone didn't rebood. So I figured, oh well, rebooted. NO loop, it rebooted. When it came up Market was gone from the main screen.
SH#%, I thought all's gone again....but when I went in all the programs, there it was along with terminal.
Ran Check - BOOM - APPS - RUNNING FROM SD CARD. Now it did say no a2sd flag found, but it's running all apps are connected to the SD, says to remove run a2sd remove.
I was shocked.
Then I ran a2sd zipalign. Now this was something I ran earlier in the process before, I can't imagine how it would effect things, but just to be exact on what I did. I ran zipalign last,,,,,a final check. It's running EXACTLY right.
Now I havn't moved the Dalvik over yet like I like to, figured I'd give it a day or two to see how it goes, but I installed a bunch of apps to see. they are going on the card just fine, some internal being used by the Dalvik, etc, but all is Well.
SO THANK YOU TO ALL>....Please let me know if anyone runs into this as I spent several days researching..
Take care...Jeff (Like I said, basically the same stuff I've done, different result, must have been a teeny tiny order or things or having something running?, who knows?)

Hey jeff. Glad it worked out.

You have stupidity confused with insanity though.

You may be right, I can say this for sure 100%, when I am in the process of doing the same darn thing over and over, hoping "Maybe this time It'll work" I am in a total INSANE mode, it is nearly impossible for be to break myself away from the computer/phone.

I litterly push it to the last second if I have to go somewhere, and then even when I do break away, it's ALL I can think about...

But anyway, I really did read that somewhere about the definition of stupidity, I think it was asking the same question over and over and expecting a different answer or something like that.

But in a case like this. I guess it could be something as simple as having a different app running in the background or something you wouldn't notice?

Because, I litterly did that Gut/Reflash thing 4-5 times. Plus, EVERYTIME I ran a2sd rinstall it rebooted the phone, this times 2x in a row, it did say on the term emul. "Rebooting Phone", but then didn't, and I did it myself??

No clue on that , but it's all good now. I'll probably move the Dalvik shortly as I know that worked fine in the past, plus it frees TONS of memory, all the memory put there for new apps (why most people ask, why is my internal memory being used when I have a22sd), without moving it, you get major savings, but if you move it, it's almost nothing used internally.

Oh well, I'll talk to ya later...

Jeff

Sometimes you have to destroy everything and rebuild from scratch, always fun, glad it got worked out though.

FYI, a workaround solution if you end up in the same or similar situation would be using the app Link2SD, which can move apps to the SD if they're programmed with that ability, as opposed to the a2sd script, which moves everything. Link2SD will also let you revert, moving apps back to internal memory.

Hey Blast.....Funny you should mention that link2sd, as I was really really close to giving it a try. You are right there is a certain "Fun" rebuilding all the software, and especially that relief when it comes up solid...

As it's booting, you don't know if your in a loop or not, try to be patient, just as I'm losing patience and getting ready to yank the battery....ding....threre it is....ahh..

Anyway, does that link2sd work basically the same and run the apps from the sd, so really you could use it with your stock ROM or anything you want for that matter??

Well, Let me know if you can.....

Also, thanks again for the info..

Do believe it can as long as your phone is rooted.

Thanks for the info....Actually it's got me curious. Don't know if you saw some posts I had, but I actually had installed Icarus w/ a2sd 3-4 times, for 1 reason or another.

This latest, that I just finished fixing a couple days ago. I COULD NOT for the life of me get a2sd to work. Every time I ran "Check" it said the apps were running from internal memory, to fix run a2sd reinstall (to move them over, etc)...
Well, I would run reinstall, and I would get a code/boot loop every single time. Eventually, I would have to pull the battery, boot w/o the SD, then put the SD back in, but the reinstall didn't take.

I had a nandroid backup I would go back to if I really screwed up. FINALLY, I decided, why not...One more time isn't going to kill me..

SO..I went to Linux, killed the EXT partition, totally Gutted the SD card, then reformatted it in windows. Reflashed to stock, and to spare all the details, went thru all the shit for CWR and Icarus. OH, BTW: When Running reinstall, after rebooting w/ the card after the boot loop ALL installed apps including Market were gone. (installed after Icarus was on, but also the Market).

Anyway, ran the "Reinstall" again. This time, the last command in terminal emu, was Reboot Phone, BUT it didn't....I rebooted myself, now it works like a charm.

SORRY TO GIVE YOU ALL THAT CRAP for nothing, just the background why I'm so interested in other options to run apps from the SD

Now, that they fixed MMS in CM7, I'm going to try that I think, I Have no clue if a2sd works in there? or not. IF you know that? let me know, otherwise, I'm more B.S'ing than anything.

I'm just gunshy to do anything now that I have all working how I want it.

So, anyway.....I want to say thank you, You have always been really cool at responding to my posts, even though I can be struck by dumb ass disease now and then, so Wanna thank you very much!!

I hope I can repay the favor someday. Like if you have a prob w/ a2sd,I think I know that up and down by now...LOL....

Anyway, didn't mean to give you a book, for a small response....But thank you very much!

All the best...Jeff
