DonB is using the Launch-X app for his contacts. It is pretty cool and I am test driving it as I type this.

I frequent Phandroid, Android Central, Android Police, and Pocketnow for most of my Android news. I would recommend setting up RSS feeds to these sites and any others you are interested in reading about on a daily basis, and then using an app like Google Reader.

2. Settings -> Cyanogenmod Settings -> display. You can check/uncheck the screen on/off animations.

4. LB posted the top sites to get your Android News. Also, if you are a Twitter user you can follow these sites or create a list. Much of the information, in terms of news, they posts will show up on the front page.

5. By auto-setup, do you mean all your email settings? Because you need to sign in after each wipe. I don't think that's an option to bypass if you want to use the likes of Market, Gmail, etc. You can use backup apps like Mybackup or Titanium to backup a particular app, along with it's data, before a wipe and restore once you have flashed a new ROM. It will restore all the settings for that particular app and makes re-configuring less time consuming.

No worries on all the questions. There is a very good community here and everyone helps out regardless of the questions, or whether it has been answered before.

Definitely +1 on Twitter as well. I use that everyday and it is useful for picking out top news quickly. I do still recommend the RSS feeds if you want to read an entire article above and beyond the news itself. It is a lot less work too because it brings all of the pertinent news that you want right to your app or to your computer via Google Reader.

I also agree with the use of Titanium Backup for saving the data of your non GMail email accounts. It is MUCH easier to just restore that than having to set up your IMAP or POP3 email accounts over and over every time you flash a new ROM.

So when I do a full wipe and put the new updated rom on my phone I just run a titaniam backup restore and it throws all my accounts on there too? GTFO!

And uh... I'm still a twitter virgin :( hrmmmm

<--- Born & Raised in New Port... I cost GM a lot of money as a child... we used to throw rocks over the fence onto the new cars.. I was like 7 at the time... I look back now and think OMG where were my parents!!!

Yes, you can have it backup the data for all your apps as well as data for configuration of things like your email. I usually just let Android Market automatically download all of my old apps when I first sign into my Google account after flashing a new ROM. Then I restore the data for the apps that require lots of configuration. Apps that require little to no configuration I might not even back up to save space.

Twitter is good to get into. I talk about Android and technology in general all the time on mine if you want to follow it, but no pressure of course. ;)

With Titanium Backup you can open the app, select the apps you want to backup, then restore the apps once you flash a new ROM. You will need to re-download Titanium Backup from the market after installing a new ROM in order to get the app back on your phone. From there, all the stored apps are on the SD Card and Titanium Backup will restore them as you like. Either restore all your apps, or certain ones. It's very useful for rooted users, especially if you are constantly flashing new ROMs.

Remember, you will need the paid version to enable market links as part of the backup process. Meaning, once you restore an app, it will show up in the "My Downlaods" tab of the market and notify you if an update is available. If you don't have the paid version, the apps will not show up in the my downloads. Invest in the paid, imo. My Backup does this for free, I think. Use both and see what fits your needs.

About Twitter, it's good to have for informational purposes even if you don't engage other users. I use it primarily for news, both local and national outlets to see what's happening.

That is why I recommend letting the Android Market automatically download all of your apps for you upon signing into your Google account the first time after you flash a new ROM. Then you can restore the data to your apps using Titanium Backup and not have to worry about breaking the links to your My Apps section of the Android Market. This method also saves you space on your microSD card. Although, the paid version is nice to have too if you want some of the advanced features. :)

EDIT: The free version of Titanium Backup will also restore you Android Market links. I have not had to use that feature because of what I mentioned in the above paragraph, but it does work: Titanium Backup for Android ? Official Site .
