Root Random reboots on every rom

This is happening on my mom's Evo. I don't know why. I have only given her good stable roms and usually stock kernels because I set up her phone. Right now she is running MikG 3.1 with Chop Suey kernel. Her phone always reboots when she's playing a game after 8-30 minutes depending on the ROM. It also happens sometimes when she plays music for too long or is on Facebook too long. I didn't overclock it or anything fancy beyond restoring her old apps. I've tried many things with no luck. PLEASE HELP!!! This is driving me bonkers.

Just curious, was it behaving this way when she was stock and not rooted?

Have you tried the latest rooted stock rom? If it does it with that, I would tend to think she has some hardware issue.

Maybe if you try swapping batteries with her for a few days. Then maybe try swapping sd cards? See if any of that makes a difference. Don't do it all at once or you won't know what, if anything, made a difference.

Good luck! :)

I'm not sure if it did it before. I bought it for her off of ebay and it was already rooted. I replaced the SD card with no luck. I'll try swapping batteries. And maybe give her a stock ROM. I was starting to think it might be a hardware issue.

This happened on my first evo and ocn had the same issue. It's a known issue with the evo and sprint will replace it at no charge as long as they can replicate the problem. Just be sure to unroot prior to taking it in. Good luck.

Damn, I got it from ebay so Sprint won't replace it. :-(

yeah i had this issue. for me it happens when i run intensive apps like navigation, or apps and games like angry bird and pandora. i noticed it would also get very hot while running these kinds of apps. after it gets hot it would then reboot. it got to a point where it would do it more often so i tried flashing different roms and the same thing happened. i then flashed a stock rom and still had the same isue. the next thing i did wats unroot the phone, but i still had the issue. so finally i took my phone in to sprint and they gave me a refurbished one.

i hope this is not the case for you, since you can't take it in to sprint.

hi while u still have a non stock kernal r u using set cpu if so what clock speed? and maybe try to under clock it say around 700 so as to lower temp to c if it helps...wont work with stock htc so maybe try freedom kernal or golden monkey universal kernals ...just a shot ..cant hurt rite.good luck oh and as always wipe cache/ delvick cache before installing kernal and with any problems i wipe before and after install before booting...just me

Dustwun77's suggestion worked like a charm! I switched batteries with my mom and everything is peachy now. She's not having any problems anymore. And her old battery isn't giving me any issues so everybody's happy now. Thanks again guys, you saved me once again.

Wow, well that is interesting!

I would have expected the problem to shift from one to the other if it was having a problem with the battery.

Glad it is working for you! I hope it continues to be well for you. :D

In the meantime, have you seen this thread? http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/504267-major-battery-drain.html

They have a deal on 2 batteries and a charger. I coupled it with a motorola charger and it was barely over 25 bucks and made it have free shipping. They seem to work really well, if you are interested.

Amazon.com: Anker 2 x 1700mAh Li-ion Batteries for Sprint HTC EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, Droid Incredible; HTC Touch Pro2, Touch Pro 2, Snap; Fits A9292 + Free Anker Multi-purpose USB Travel Charger: Cell Phones & Accessories

I just recently got those Anker 1700's. The pair with charger. Only cycled them twice as instructed so far (out of 5), and Ive gone from 10-12 hours under MY average use, to now 22 1/2 hours at 49%. Also has addressed my rebooting issue for the most part. However if I still have the original (almost)2 year old SDcard that came with it. Got a new 32g Lexar coming :)
Now I havent had them long enough to speak on their longevity, but initially I'm very happy with them!

Running CM7.2 stock kernel
nothin else special atm due to watching for the issue to return
