Root random reboots when I use navigation

hortstu

Android Enthusiast
I only put this in root only because I've had the problem with 2 rooted roms now. Fresh and Myns.

Anyone know about this problem? What the solutions are?

Thanks.

Did you use setpcu? I had my profile set to 245/245 screen off and when I would try to use gps and pandorait would freeze and reboot. I tried and played with the settings a little until it stopped. I think I ended up with 245/645 or something like that. Not sure if that us happening to you though.

Thanks for the suggestion I have not used set cpu. I'm using whatever myn's standard settings are. Maybe I should give it a try.

i'm using mikfroyo 4.4 and netarchy 4.3.1 toastmod and i tried testing this, i have 1 fc and then while trying to navi its just stuck on "getting driving directions" :(

oh im using cpu tuner, change the screen off setting as suggested on previous reply but no luck

please advise

Well, I trust you're in an open area and didn't try the very second you turned on GPS, right? It can take a while if not.

Otherwise, this might be overkill, but try something like this:

1) Go to the menu->settings->applications->manage applications, then select the "all" tab.
2) Find maps, and wipe data and cache for the app. Force stop it while you're there.
3) Reboot into recovery, then wipe cache and dalvik.
4) Reboot normally, and try maps again.

Hehe, yeah, I think it would have taken a while for any of us to come to that specific conclusion without know that specific information. Glad you decided to look. For future reference, if you don't know what it is, don't freeze it :). TTS is basically text to speech. Google navigator needs that for obvious reasons. I'm sure if you'd tried other apps that need it, and found they didn't work, we could have figured that out a little sooner. You might want to take a look at the Rooting for Dummies guide for a list of safe services to stop (or is that where you got it from? If so it should probably be removed from that list).

im just trying to cherry pick all stuff that i think is not being used, if everything works i assumed what i freeze is alright but in this case i never thought its really being used by maps and funny thing is lower versions doesn't hang but the new one does.

thanks you guys for helping :)

Yeah, that is weird, but 5.0 was a pretty big overhaul. Like I said, you should probably be careful from now on. Freeze stuff that is known to be safe to freeze.

Thanks but I haven't frozen anything and I'm still having these problems. I guess starting over is the best bet for me.

There is a whole other thread about the rebooting issue. I had this problem long before I rooted and it has continued long after the rooting and recently become worse with no changes in the rooting process. My point is that your problem may be and probably is totally unrelated to rooting.

As was asked earlier, what kernel are you using? Was it stock on both ROMs, or a specific one on both?

Sorry missed that... As always thanks for the help...

Kernel= 2.6.32.17-gee557fd
htc-kernel@and18-2#15

I believe I updated the kernel when I installed fresh but I might be mistaken about that. I don't remember any random reboots when I was stock. Only since I've had myn's and for the last few weeks of fresh...

The only time I'm aware of it happening is when I'm using navigation but it may happen at other times. Also I mentioned in another thread I restored my settings with titanium as well as apps and data. That's the other reason I'm considering reinstalling myns.

I suggest you take a look at the rebooting thread that jamesdean linked to. There's a lot of information there that you may find useful. Also, I suggest you try either ROM in a fresh state (wipe data, flash it, then test things out). Blindly restoring all apps, data, and settings with titanium backup can cause issues, especially with system apps like this.
