I'm really sorry @rootabaga. Thanks for giving him a good life. I have a beagle rescue that's going on 14 years old, and we are steeling ourselves for this inevitability as well. :(

Thanks for your sympathy. I keep looking over at him napping and knowing it’s likely the last time I’ll see him napping, just like all of the other “lasts.” My heart’s already breaking and he’s still with us.

I wish there were enough steel…and I wish you that strength. In the end, the truth is, all we can do is love on them while they’re here. <3

There comes a time, at least in my mind, that is is pure selfishness to prolong a pet's life. They are tired and in pain. It's so difficult to part company with a loving and faithful pet but when you've explored every avenue to restore some quality of life and there is no avenue, it's time. You love them so much that you set them free. We shoulder that responsibility when we adopt a pet. It would not be difficult if we didn't love them so very much. If we weren't going to share such love, they were adopted by the wrong person.

Very true. He still was finding some enjoyment in his life and actually was sitting up and smiling on the drive to the vet. Still, he had some real struggles every day and while he would probably have made it a month or two longer, his struggles would have been greater and his joy would have been less. I couldn’t do that to him. RIP, my dear little buddy.

We had two little doggies that we had to say goodbye to recently. One was a year older than the other and was in very bad shape. The younger one had suffered a stroke and was blind and deaf. They both struggled and we struggled with them. We put off the inevitable longer than we should have. Being empty nesters, they were our babies. That is not a good excuse to let them suffer. We are at the age where taking on the responsibility of another dog is not a good idea. I was fortunate enough to have shared life with 12 dogs in my lifetime. I miss each and every one.

I have let a few years pass between dogs and I've let only a few months before adopting another. Neither method replaced the loved pet we lost. However, I've never shared time with a dog that wasn't absolutely rewarding. Each in turn brought something wonderful into my home.

I hope that time will ease the pain of your loss but in no way diminish your wonderful memories.

Here’s a recent pic of our beloved Liam. He was a rescue and could sometimes suffer from separation anxiety, and I realized these past few days that’s kind of what I was suffering from as I knew what today would hold.

It’s somehow crazy to me how very much I miss him.

Someone created a fake profile for me on FB, which is far more common than an actual hack (I keep mine pretty locked-down as well, don’t play their games or install their apps, etc.).
Most curious to me is that my account *here* used to be hacked on a fairly regular basis, with the perpetrator then posting porn and other crap. The forum mods/admins (yay and thanks to great unpaid staff!!) knew it wasn’t me so they’d lock the account until I would go in and change the password (and yes, they were always complex passwords). Finally I threw in the towel and enabled two-factor authentication for this forum; it’s a bit of a pain having to re-establish who I am every thirty days on multiple devices, but no more hacks, so the pain is worth it. ;)

How many different set of on screen keyboards there is, and I wonder if there is one ready for me though, but it depends on what my nature really feels like...

I read this article in the WSJ, and such a vaccine might also prevent some of the common cold viruses, as well as other variants of covid and, potentially, coronaviruses that have yet to emerge.
To Prevent the Next Pandemic, Scientists Seek One Vaccine for Many Coronaviruses

While those are laudable goals, it seems to me what is really needed is a vaccine that will cause people to think rationally about vaccines... ;) :D
Pretty soon they will get more cautions around the areas of hospitals.

So been in touch with one of my mother's ex-boyfriends, we are still friends, no matter what happen.
Sometimes when you close a door on their relationship and help build up with another pillar, you cannot help to wonder what did happen with them.
At least he did phone me a spell ago.
