Very small public service announcement on the established Admin policy on the charged topic at hand (established = we've been here before) -
Gun discussion in the Lounge is *generally* ok, just fine.
Lounge = let your hair down, kick off your shoes.
If it's a dedicated gun thread, find one you like if you don't like it - same as any other Lounge thread.
If it's a general thread like this one, modding goes to the majority complaint - because - democracy.
Political statements - we don't expect everyone in a straight jacket, we do expect some comments, we don't expect to step in until it becomes a debate for the political lounge. Most debates we've seen so often that we may speak up early.
Mod policy - enforce Admin policy. Hope that everyone lets a little bit slide one day and gets the respect so that their opposite little bit slides the next day. Hope that everyone self-manages and spontaneously goes to the political lounge for a good, rousing disagreement because democracy is about speaking up on important issues and views.
Why the political lounge?
My personal best answer - for the same reason that to date, no presidential election debates have been televised from a grocery store.
Venues exist for reasons.
"Please go to the political lounge," does not mean please shut up. It means, "How very important, please speak up in the venue we worked to provide - please speak up a LOT!"
The Mod Bedtime Prayer -
"Please let me wake up tomorrow without an inbox accusing me of being to the left of Tinkerbell in one message, to the right of Hitler in the next, and generally getting called a lowlife censor when all I did was try to be the neutral Walmart greeter and say political chat is on aisle 5."
Thank you for your time with this very minor public service announcement.
