I saw some future convicts ERR I mean children doing monkey business beating each other up - and then I said to the them in a stereotypical and raspy Chinese Kung Fu master voice:

"While your technique is good..... you lack precision! Now let me show you a thing or 2 about a REAL Kung Fu Master!"

XD

LOL!!!

Were you in a funky Chinatown? Was it a little bit frightening? Did they fight with expert timing?

I never understood why the movie was called "The Karate Kid", when clearly he wasn't doing Karate, he was doing Kung Fu in China.....just seems stupid or a huge goof to me.

Even on the bill, it's clearly Kung Fu that's being depicted....doh!!

It's Chinese name is "功夫梦", which means "Kung Fu dream"

Stupid Americans would not know what Kung Fu was if the movie was called that.

Also, just to be honest, Kung Fu Kid doesn't roll off the tongue as well as Karate Kid.

It's a franchise thing for the American market? And it basically the same story as the first, 1984, Karate Kid movie, a remake or reboot. Boy gets bullied, he learns and becomes great at the martial art, and eventually beats the bullies. That's basically the plot I think.

Jeez, it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that it was a remake of a karate movie for kids called Karate Kid and they simply decided to cash in on the name or anything, could it?

You know - like another Chinese knock off?

Only with Jackie Chan who happens to make great movies.

I became very used to its Chinese name, especially around here...LOL Kung Fu Dream. :)

Ohhh... EM... Please don't get me started on a rant about remakes! [emoji13]

My feeling is "Modern Hollywood...Please leave the '80's alone...you don't understand the '80's!"
http://m.imdb.com/title/tt1234719/ ... Ummm... No... Just NO!

No! No! No! No!

I wasn't aware that even existed, never seen it. Straight to DVD release apparently, never been in a theatre, that sounds ominous.
WarGames: The Dead Code... Ya...I happened to stumble upon this unfortunate piece of...umm...fertilizer...thank God I have not actually seen this waste of time, but reading the plot...if you can call it that, shows that the directors of this joke, completely missed the historical significance of the original film from the '80's.

Perfect example of the reason why I humbly ask that modern Hollywood leave the '80's alone.

{sorry for the long rant...but this subject touched a nerve since I grew up in the '80's}

Not to single out "Karate Kid" but over the last several years have you guys noticed that reboots/remakes made up a lot of the new movie releases? Total Recall, Fright Night, Karate Kid, RoboCop, Star Trek just to name a few...have the writers lost all creativity?
For me Premium TV original programming (HBO, ShowTime etc) has outshone the silver screen in recent years as far as creativity and writing go.

Yeh, Cold War, I grew up in the 70s and 80s. When I watched Werewolf in Paris, it was clear how cheaply it was made, mostly not very convincing CGI.

Totally agree, leave the great ones alone...before long (and shudder to think about it)we'll see reboots of American Psycho, Reservoir Dogs, Killing Zoe and every other piece of cinema that ever mattered because name/brand recognition could potentially make Hollywood a few bucks.

Absolutely!

Hollywood doesn't seem to have new a lot of new ideas...of course that is not really new.

Just personally, since I lived though the `80's, it kind of ticks-me-off when modern Hollywood remakes a film from the '80s, and they TOTALLY miss the cultural and historical significance of the original film.

Another good example of that is the current Mad Max film. From everything I have heard, the current Mad Max film is an exciting action movie, but since there is currently no threat of Mass Assured Destruction, like there was in the '80's, the current version of Mad Max lacks the necessary historical and cultural prospective.

{okay...I promise I will get off of the stage}

My apologies for my rant, but I am at the age where I am an opinionated old fart.
