Random Thought Thread

Hollywood is running out of ideas and new might not be politically correct. They are resurrecting old movies that were blockbusters in the past. If the filmmakers are going to just re-release, then why not write the scripts as serials to begin with?
Ebook authors are now doing that.

Just a point -
One network recently showed a live version of "The Wiz"
Some viewers and posters on social media complained that the cast was black. The Wiz was a black musical originally. Did well on Broadway. The same idiots also forgot that "The Wizard of Oz" with Judy Garland came out in the 30s. Today some group would claim it was inspired by the Devil since it had witches.

The best version of "Over the Rainbow" I've ever heard was a Hawaiian singing it in a documentary about Hawaii by air.
I think the Smithsonian channel had it.

So in my firm, when you're meeting with a partner or manager, the door is typically open unless the conversation pertains to your employment/performance, etc.

Got called in to the partner's office who oversees our department. I assumed I was being called in because of a potential complaint from another partner regarding my work(I was late turning in a fairly major project). When I get in there, he's got a manager with him, they ask me to close the door and take a seat.

At this point I was 90% sure I was going to be packing my desk and leaving.

Got promotion instead. Holy *****

Agree about Independence Day. IMO the first one was a 'shitty' clichéd blockbuster, and I fully expect the sequel to be no different. I think generally sequels tend to be worse than the originals, with a couple of notable exceptions.

Star Trek though - I'll probably give that a go, because the recent ones have not been bad at all.

It's a bit like the video game industry. Instead of taking a risk with a new idea, they prefer to go down the safer route of rehashing old formats that were successful, and made a lot of money. I think it stifles innovation, but I guess there's a lot at stake here.
But I can't believe that the creativity isn't there and new ideas aren't being generated. It's just the risk factor is so high when these things cost millions to make.
 
There are still plenty of smaller, and independent films out there if you put a little effort into finding them. Those big blockbusters and sequels keep being made because people keep paying to see them. And the profits from those movies help fund the risk of new ideas.
 
Just used my bank app for the first time, paid with NFC in a store for groceries with my phone, directly from my bank account :) Cool.
