Sex will be GONE within 30 years as designer baby-making replaces old-school bonking

Rather than introducing sperm to egg through the sweaty and often awkward rigamole of rumpy-pumpy, couples will instead head down to a laboratory where a scientist will make a baby for them.
...

Stem cells will then be produced from the skin, ordered to turn into eggs and used to make babies, freeing prospective parents from worrying about boring old things like orgasms and sexy underwear.
May be true as far as babies go, but you'll never stop people from having sex for fun.;)

Disagree. It's one thing that humans are hardwired to do. I see no motivation to stop doing it.
Although genetic engineering might have possibilities, if we can get over the ethics of it. Ever seen the film GATTACA?

In the year 6565,
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife,
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too,
From the bottom of a long glass tube, Whooa!

Sat in the office with nothing to do at the moment.

Come on let's have a discussion. Genetic engineering - good or bad? Would it be great if we could eradicate or fix genetic abnormalities before birth?

Yay! The kid just called, he landed a sweet job in FL. It's a "real" job, not seasonal field work (he's a wildlife biologist) traveling to different places every few months. Phew. I'm so happy for him. He's paid his dues and worked his arse off in school and it finally paid off for him.

Yay!

... I miss Florida... well, not the internet Florida, but the place where I grew up Florida.

Hahaha.

Weird... for some strange reason, Facebook wouldn't accept certain letters from my keyboard. A, S, G...

It's not the keyboard (obviously, or the previous wouldn't have registered)...

Huh, a refresh of the site cleared it up.

You know what?

I just noticed something the other day!

I have tried so hard for so long to try and define myself in a short but true-ish description of thine self but before always seemed to either fall freakishly short or totally off target... then it hit me!

I like to cal myself a MESSTER PIECE :D

Instead of a "Masterpiece" I like to refer to myself as a "Messterpiece"

In one single word... I either ****ing super intelligent... uber depressed... completely isnsane.... hyper boring... out of my mind....

Trying to save everybody - or trying hard not to kill everyone!

Do you also feel like a Mesterpiece???

Lets all be "Messterpieces" together in this crazy game called life :)

Who's with me guys? :D:D:D

What the heck is that? /a Polygamist wedding?

I say no to genetic engineering of humans and animals. One big reason which I like to call the Captain Kirk scenario.
“I don’t want my pain taken away, I need my pain!” Captain Kirk constantly reminds us: would we truly be human without all of our flaws?

My pain, my weakness, my mistakes, my missteps got me where I am right now. And where I am right now is where I belong. Without the downs the ups don't seem as high and certainly might not be worth the work of climbing all the way up there. Just my humble opinion.

Have you read The Autobiography of James T. Kirk? It's partly a synopsis of TOS and all the Shatnerian movies, a little fan-fic, and a smidge of retconning. It succeeds at making him even more human and smoothing out some incongruity between the different products of the franchise.

Human genetic engineering will happen whether we like it or not. Too many rich people willing to pay millions for perfect babies. I'm sure it'll start out as fighting against genetic diseases, but eye color and athleticism won't be far behind. Luckily I'll be dead before the beautiful bland humans inherit the Earth.

And Nature will find a way to push back...

Possibility the Zombie Apocalypse that everyone has talked about for years.

All joking aside though...Human Genetic Engineering might actually be the down fall of the human race.

Like you, I hope that I won't be around when it happens.

I for one would appreciate genetic engineering to an acceptable degree of helping and saving lives. As I have many health issues myself and see things from a slightly clipped perspective, it becomes easier to perceive some benefits. My stipulation would be that it would be only for saving ppl

That's why it is bound to happen. It's hard to argue against preventing kids from being born with horrible diseases. But once the genie is out of the bottle, there'll be no stopping it.

To be clear, I'm completely against genetic engineering for any cosmetic purposes, and I agree that creating a race of cosmetically perfect humans is abhorrent.
But as a way to correct severe genetic abnormalities, which have a life changing impact on the person, wouldn't that be ok?

I completely agree with you on both points! [emoji106]
