Random Thought Thread

Keep getting a malware message on chrome when visiting this thread. Only this thread? Why? Is something up with androidforums?

This usually is the result of an image that if traced back came from a malicious site.

And yeah, something is up with androidforums.com -

A) The sky is falling. Tell your friends.

B) We strive to have the best user protection we can but we can't control every link in advance.

C) Have you heard about the Report button? The chat with moderators forum?

Anyway, in this particular case, someone added a bit.ly link to their sig without bad intentions, but it ultimately resolved to a questionable site.

Xyro, member of the admin team, fixed it about 4 hours ago.

As for your first car - get a beater. Worry about quality beginning with your second car.

If I get a better how long will it be before I have to worry about my 2nd car? 1 year? 2? Im looking to have my car for at least 8-10 years. Then get my second car.

"It's not just the kid who's spent every penny from his job to upgrade his car to tell the world he cares about sports cars, it's also the person driving around in a fuel-conscious hybrid electric car, because it's more a message to the world than an effective means of saving fuel, to be quite honest." - Richard Hammond (BBC Top Gear host)

Great plan.

Get a beater, learn the joys of car ownership - misjudging where to park, getting it scratched and dinged up, driving in all kinds of weather no matter what, driving in all kinds of traffic no matter what, having it broken into and a window smashed when you were just sure that that you wouldn't be that long, whatever it was wouldn't be worth breaking in for, and surely you were in a safe place with people watching, when you can ghost a truck without getting a 70 mph rock thrown to your windshield and when you can't, and a whole host of other learning treasures that you may think that you already know but won't until you've owned your own car for a year, not borrowed one.

You may be one of those rare individuals who doesn't need that but the odds are heavily against you, and nothing personal, but some of your posts suggest I'm right.

I don't know why that first year of car ownership is so tough, it has nothing to do with logic - it just typically is.

If you get a beater to last a year or two, excellent. And your learning ownership phase won't have cost you nearly as much. Especially insurance.

I had to go through three beaters myself.

My third one I hated with a passion when I got it - because the price was right. After a year and a half, it still wouldn't die, so I went through it, bit by bit, part by part, system by system, and rebuilt, replaced, upgraded and tricked out every piece of that car. When I was done, everyone wanted to ride in it.

Coincidentally, it was a 65 V-8 Chevy Impala two door.

Do what's best for you.

I recommend a beater. After that first year of cursing my name, I'll bet you'll thank me. :D

A car is faster than walking or biking and gives you greater range with higher comfort. At an incredibly high price. Plus, it's disposable every moment you have it whether you like it or not.

A car is nothing more than that.

So what's a beater? Some $900 Taurus that cost over $1,000 to fix? I'm driving a beater now. A 2002 Taurus that I'm afraid to drive to Indiana because of it breaking down. The vehicle is leaking everything, and to fix it, will cost $750 to fix, more than the car is worth in it's condition.

I'm not saying I need a Mustang or some sports car. Not saying I need a $10,000 car with all the bells and whistles.

Currently looking at cars under $5,000. Nothing Luxury, nothing too fancy, Something to keep the insurance within something I can afford.

Dad just called, said that he could fix up my brothers old Aveo that broke down in Michigan, and the dealership in Chicago can't come and get it. Said that he could possibly buy it for $250. Dad would give it to me for FREE :P :)

Hell, I'll take a free beater. Save me some money for my next car. Which heck... May be a new (or like new) impala.

My bad, I thought you meant you were buying your first car.

How long have you owned the Taurus?

Well, I don't own it, but I drive it every day like I own it. Going to and from work and school for the past year.

I could help pay for the repairs for the vehicle, but I believe that will be a waste of money, as this car is basically Totaled. (not worth the repairs).

The problem with buying a beater, is the repairs you have to put into them.

My grandma bought this car for $4,000 6 years ago. She has put in more than $6,000 in repairs for this vehicle. So, that's $10,000 in 6 years...

My Aunt bought a fairly decent car. About $15,000 Toyota almost 10 years ago. She NEVER had to do a repair on the vehicle. Other than regular maintenance, oil change, brake change, tire change.

She just sold it last year and bought a newer model of the same car.

Told all my bosses that I was going to buy a car today. Even got called in and asked to work said I was buying a car. What am I going to do when they ask about my new car?

"Next week, getting a car for basically free?"

SF: Congrats on finally finding a vehicle. I agree with what Pearlymon said about beaters. My first 2 cars were beaters. The lesson with them is when repairs get to expensive to keep going, you ditch it and get another beater, until you can afford a newer car. I cursed both cars while I had them, but I'm glad I had the experience. It makes me 100x more grateful for my 2012 Fusion.

I honestly believe that in your current position, buying an 09 Impala(or any car that new) would have been a bad decision. If you lost your job at McDonalds and couldn't find another one, you would have been in a pinch trying to make payments.

On an unrelated note, I like pretzels. I like pizza. Decided to try Little Ceasar's pretzel crust pizza. Big mistake.

The real car that I want is a 2014 impala. Not because it's new but because it's the beginning of the 10th generation of the vehicle which is far superior in many ways than the 7,8,9th generation impala.
I think after like the 80's GM really lost their way with the impala. Don't know what it is but the design I think is ugly. 2005 being one of the ugliest cars in my opinion. And that's an impala, my type of car.

No but the 10th generation, I don't know what GM did. They probably fired everyone from the other generation and hired some artist. But I believe by that time, when comes time to buy my next car, there will be so many charging stations around the United States, that buying an electric vehicle will be good choice. I'll still be living up to my word in never buying a gas car. So the aveo won't count because it's given to me. 😁

On an unrelated note, if I get this promotion at work. I think I'll reward myself with getting a new phone. My current choices are very limited. Because I want to stick with boost mobile to keep my bill $45.67 a month for unlimited everything my choices are.

IPhone 6
Iphone 6 plus
Galaxy s5

Im actually leaning a bit more towards the 6 plus, but I would hate to stop my all access music from Google, and all the apps I ever bought for Android. Which is like $25 worth.

You could go to Straight Talk and open yourself up to the world of GSM technology. I pay $45.xx a month for unlimited everything(data limited to 3 GB, but I've never used more than 1 GB). If you have good AT&T or T-Mobile coverage there, than it should be a good choice.

I have a huge grudge with att and verizon and will probably never pay them a penny.

Thinking of going with sprint. Unlimited everything for $50/month with an iPhone... That's a steal.
