Help Randomly Turning Off?

Great thread, having the same problems as everyone else. Was going to take the phone back today but if its going to happen to that one to and by sounds of it there is a high chance it will I'm not going to bother.

Tad of a novice when it comes to android phones as I had a BB prior to my Galaxy Ace and tbh can't get the Kies to connect to my phone to update to the gingerbread system to stop galaxy from freezing.

Cheers all

Paul

I recently updated to android 2.3.4 (BUILD: DDKQ5 ) and that fixed this problem !
its been over 24hours on wi-fi and no freeze/switch-off

Hello there, did you updated in Samsung Kies or by other means?
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone :)

I've registered in here because of this issue with Galaxy Ace. At first I didn't notice any of this but then it started to happen once or twice a week.
I used to use Y5 battery saver, which is very good, and I thought it was because of this application that the problem was occurring. I disabled it and the problem remained. The problem is it started to happen more and more, and I don't know why.
Also i've read on the net that it is a hardware problem and not software. I still don't get it, is it a hardware or software problem?!
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I just have a question, where did you find it?
Thanks.

Wifi Configuration "NEVER WHEN PLUGGED IN" works for almost 48hrs as far as I can notice.

Android Version 2.3.4
Kernel 2.6.35.7
Build XXKPH

Hi,
even with this firmware version (the same I have) the problem presists and is the same as described in the posts: #255 and #264.

I upgraded my phone (using kies) from version 2.2.1 to 2.3.3 (Vodafone customization) and because the problem started I tried the "non costumized" version 2.3.4 (not using kies) and its the same. Lets hope next versions can correct this.

Since I upgraded to KPN and later KPO FW, i didn't have SOD. All other version KPL, KPH and 2.2.1 FW-s, was problematic.

Just got my galaxy ace yesterday and the SOD occurred numerous times in last two days. Had wifi on constantly. Just tried the *#*#526#*#* code and will update if SOD reoccurs or after a week if it doesnt.

im still having a SOD after entering this code

Got my phone back from the shop. They claim it never rebooted when they had it. Big help they were. Anyway formatted the phone and now no shutdowns in a week.

Hi there,
I'm a noobie and this is my first android phone.
Like many Ace owners, my phone suffers from the SoD syndrome. I read in several forums that it could have something to do with the wi-fi being on for too long. So, I changed my settings to wifi "Never" sleep, did a factory reset, installed Android Booster apps and what not... Nothing has helped.
Last nite I did not have my wi-fi on at all and in the midddle of the night I noticed that the phone was dead again...
My biggest fear is that the alarm clock won't go off in the morning when I have to work nect next day. Anybody an idea if the alarm will still work, even though the phones goes into SoD mode???
Thanks for your help!!!

One thing you can have sure of... the alarm WON'T GO OFF if SoD occurs.
Already happened to me!

But, however, since I've made the Kies update to 2.3.3, i've never had another SoD. Also it solved the problem with bluetooth sync with my car.
The most relevant drawback of this update is that the battery drains faster.

Thanks Hugo_B for the information. It's very scary that the alarm won't go off when the phone goes into SoD...
Did you do an official firmware upgrade via Kies? Or how did you get your GB update?
I heard mixed reviews about solving the SoD problem by upgrading the OS. Some people say it got worse after the upgrade, some say it went away. I still have mixed feelings about upgrading, as I hope that Samsung will work on the bugs that GB still has, before I upgrade...

It was an official upgrade via Kies. I've made the upgrade because I was having issues with SoD and Bluetooth. If the phone was working properly I wouldn't have done the upgrade. And that's what I recommend, if your phones are working properly do not upgrade. I've already had problems when upgraded a Galaxy 550 with custom firmware.

Interesting that you say the battery drains faster - I understood from numerous other forums that Gingerbread actually extended battery life.
Also, the problem of sticking in standby is a hardware one and not fixed by software. IT may be Gingerbread automatically switches off WiFi in standby which works around the problem?
In any case, I have resigned myself to simply switching off WiFi after every use and since starting this many months ago, I have not had a recurrence.
This was the case on 2.2 and no change since updating to 2.3 a few days ago (not that I have tried to see if the fault still exists since upgrading).

Interesting fact, that some of you guys seem to have solved the SoD problem with the GB update.
I'm trying to find/see a pattern in here and therefore wondering where you did your GB upgrade? Was it the official one via Kies, or from other unofficial sources?
Since I'm not very good at those technical stuffs, I need to ensure that I upgrade from a source that does not cause me more headache than the current Froyo version. I wouldn't wanna have to find a way to downgrade the OS again after an unsuccessful upgrade.
TIA!

Are you sure that is a hardware problem?
I use Y5 Battery Saver and when I'm at work or at home, wireless is always on. Until now, no SoD. Using GB for over a week.

Maybe Samsung after all knows about the problem and tried to do something about it...
Or not and It's just luck...

Just to add my 2 cents, before when I was on Froyo never had SOD, now I'm on GB 2.3.3 I have it at least once a day.
So for me GB's messed my phone up, going to have try the work arounds.

Edit: Want to add that since I've only started only using WiFi when I need it, also switched WiFi to never sleep turned auto sync/Google sync off and use the Samsung SD card that came with the phone(why this should make a difference I don't know) I've so far add no SOD for over 24 hours.
Make of that what you will.

Hi!

I have a Galaxy Ace too, and my phone suffers from SoD... When I'm at home, i always leave wifi turned ON and there is no SoD. Sometimes I forget to switch the wifi off in the morning(before I go to school), and everytime I enter my school, my phone falls asleep(SoD). Sometimes it has SoD in different places in different times, while I'm walking in the centre, etc. But at home I have never had it... I have Gingerbread KPK firmware updated via Kies. My phone is rooted, and I have Juice Defender and Battery Indicator. At wifi settings I set sleep policy to never. As I remember, when I had Froyo, it happend 2-3 times in a week, then I updated to Gingerbread(KPK), formatted my SD card(8GB) and did a hard/factory reset. It maybe solved the SoD problem. I don't know that for 100 percent because in that time I didn't have to go to school. Maybe after I installed Juice Defender, my phone started having SoD again... I'll try that if I go to school with Juice Defender disabled, I hope I'll be lucky :) Yesterday I was listening to music while I was going to school, and I was happy, because I didn't have SoD. :)

I have tested the same issue... "Display randomly going off"..
Initially, used to keep the wifi ON always.. & i used to experience the same issue atleast 1-3 times a day..
Now, i switch OFF the wifi wen not required... & have tested for 3 days.... Works fine... So, i too believe the issue is with the wifi driver.. For sure cannot be a h/w issue..

I have some bad news... :/ I tried it without Juice Defender and my phone got an sod.:( today i'll just do a hard reset and I'll format my sd card. I hope it'll have some effect.. ;)

Oh, well, maybe not the word per se - more some kind of abbreviation. :p

Anyway, since I updated to 2.3.3. XWKPO, (at samfirmware.com) I had no SOD. Been almost a week.

[fingers crossed that this is THE solution...]
