Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

The Prius was totaled; getting a nice check to replace it with, but down to one vehicle at the moment.

... And wouldn't you know it, just for a flat tire, so I am going to have to go and get it patched or replaced after work.
Glad to hear that you are getting a nice check for your destroyed vehicle...sorry to hear that you got a flat tire.

Kid and I went cross-country on a bus once. We were in the back and she complained about being carsick. That went on until the bus driver started missing the gears.

All the younger group in the back started yelling - "if you can't find them, grind them" - and that was the last I heard about being carsick for the rest of the trip.

Drivers that change lanes in front of you, without signaling.

This past week, twice I almost Rear-ended a car because the driver, without any warning, pulled in front of me. Both times I had to slam on the breaks, and I was very grateful that my Ford Fusion has standard Anti-Lock breaks.

It'd be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

Meanwhile, the tire shop couldn't patch my tire, so I had to fork over $180 for a new tire.

If I could have held out for another week, I could have bought a full set and saved $140... Maybe I'll be able to get them to refund this tire and then sell me the full set with the discount.

Ya...I would certainly fight for the refund-discount.

I have fans on stands that came with remotes. Kid loved them. I don't see why you can't control an air conditioner the same way.

BTW - air conditioner or swamp cooler. Swamp coolers more common out here on homes.

Basically it's a window unit that all kids stand in front of and talk into it using elongated syllables. Makes a very cool sound.

Seriously, it's a water cooler. A unit with a mesh that holds water as a squirrel cage forces air through it. Excellent cooling aid in arid areas because it cools as well as adds humidity.

Temperate climate, I never had domestic A/C in the UK.

Tropical or semi-tropical it can become rather essential for comfortable living and working, like when I was staying in Hangzhou, Zhejiang in July and August, 46C by day and 40C at night, high humidity. Go outside for any length of time, have to change clothes as soon as come back in and take a shower.

Most domestic A/C units in China do have remote control, as they're usually mounted high on the wall with an umbilical to the external box, rather than window units.
