Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

People really need to learn "self checkout lane" etiquette. I just got yelled at by some young chicky because I suggested she might want to wait to put her items down the conveyor belt until I finished bagging mine. I guess next time I won't say anything, & I'll just bag some of the other person's stuff with mine :p

It was a very low speed incident, so I don't think there was any damage at all to the van. However it has cracked ours, requiring a replacement rear door. That will cost £££'s.

Yes driving away from the scene of an accident is a criminal offence in the UK too. This wasn't the case though, as the driver stopped and got out. However my wife just didn't get enough in the way of identity, and there were no witnesses.
Police don't normally get involved unless it's a bigger accident, involving injury or major damage. If that had happened, the other guy could clearly not deny being there. But as I say, thankfully nobody was hurt.

So what I'm going to do is nothing. No claim, and just have to live with the damage on my car. If I do go ahead and claim, it will go down as my fault, I'll have to pay my excess, and future policy renewals will be loaded up accordingly.

Just chalk it down to experience and remember next time to get full details.

My wife is a fender bender magnet, thankfully not her fault. I just swear there is some weird force field that blocks driving skills in the parking lots of nail places. Anyway, her habit is pic of the two cars, pic of the plates, pic of any damage or non damage, pic of hers and their license and registration. That way she can prove they were the other party, and that they don't try to pull a fast one later claiming damage from an unrelated incident.
Similar problem with me...

I have a Ford Fusion.

First my bumper got knocked loose in a parking garage, and I have no idea who did it.

Then the lower portion of my rear passengers side door got crushed in at a parking lot, and again, I have no idea who did it.

Lastly there is a small dent above my driver's side door, once again, the damage happened in a parking lot, and I have no idea how it happened.

What ever happened to the common decency of a person owning up to their mistakes?

Very unfortunate. It's all too easy to just drive away if you happen to ding another car, especially if nobody saw it.

Some self checkout lanes need to improve their actions. If I buy one pack of gum, I don't need a damn bag. Some of the checkouts still want the item in a bag. You can't just put it on the platform. These are still in states that don't require recycling or charging for plastic bags.

At that price you could probably do front and back.:thumbsupdroid:

That one was a bit too cheap for my liking. I've done a bit of digging and gone for one of these

I saw a video of someone driving with it, and the picture quality was good. If it's ok, I'll order more of them to monitor front and rear on both cars I own. Hey if this is what it takes to beat the low life scumbags who don't own up to their own mistakes, then that's what I'll do.

My attempt to desert my fellow workers by moving on to a better-paying career is becoming a running joke.

I actually like where I work, just don't want to be the bottom-feeder anymore, and the management is content with the status quo.

... never mind the fact that there are a literal handful of people who are saddled with all the work and none of the guys in the other location have to hold three or four hats (and everyone gets the pay scale).

If I have to leave, and screw over my coworkers in order to feed my family, then that's what will happen. I'd rather they gang up on the management and convince them that my leaving will blow up their entire house of cards and royally screw them, so they consider bribing me to stay with a little extra pay.

I don't think I am being unreasonable here.

Stick to your guns Dngrsone. It's managements job to pay you as little as possible. It's an employees job to see that they receive adequate compensation for services rendered. It's a number game that employees are always behind the curve. All a man can do is try to keep pace. Good luck.

I have more-or-less gone on general strike... I do the minimal work I am paid to do, but I've stopped doing all the other little things that my lead should be doing. I'm hoping the supervisor will realize (without me having to rub his face in it) that I could make things run a lot more smoothly of only I was a lead.

I'd also rather not have tell management to give me a pay raise because (large list of reasons)... it feels like extortion if I do.

So, in a fit of acquisitiveness or somesuch, I bought a Seek Thermal imager to work with my Galaxy S4.

Problem is, the device is supposed to plug into the micro USB connector on the phone and I happen to have my phone packed into an Otterbox.

So, I picked up a little extender cable. It's six inches long, and it works good except I have a problem with holding the camera in a good orientation. So I decided to build something to more-or-less mount the thermal imager just below the phone camera.

I have a beat-up old holster for my Otterbox, so I modified it to allow the camera to see through it and fixed a mounting spot for the imager.

My extender cable is too short.

So I ordered a slightly longer one. One recommended by someone who did the same thing as me in regard to a Seek Thermal imager.

When I plug in this new, longer cable (nine inches), I get this message on the phone that says that I have connected a high-current device and it won't let me use my imager.

I just want to use my new toy/tool effectively! Now I am going to have to return this stupid wire and try again later...

Motorola
Motorola grinds my gears.

For the past several years I have had at least one new phone a year (Atrix, Atrix2, Atrix HD, MotoX 2013, Nexus 6) See a pattern? I also owned a Razr back in the day... I love me some Moto ... or loved I should say.

So I am now spoiled by the Nexus ecosystem but I am not a fan of the new Nexus phones from LG and Huawei and to make matters worse now that Lenovo owns Moto I can't even go and buy a MotoX and believe that I am buying from the same company I have been a devoted follower of for many years.

I feel like I may have the last phone I will ever buy, and that makes me a sad panda. :(

Hopefully in 2016 someone will make something that gets me juiced.

Scammers... these guys are going door-to-door, wanting to see my energy bill to make sure I received some state-mandated discount.

They have the balls to be surprised when I tell them, no, I will not show you my bill. Either that or they are naive and don't know that what they are doing is likely going to cost people money.

Having to Re-Adjust everything in my car after getting it repaired by a mechanic.

A week ago, I picked up my car after being repaired at a dealership, and everything in the cabin of the car was out-of-whack. I had to completely readjust the seat, readjust all of the mirrors (left, right, and rear view), and all of the presets on the car stereo. And the repair shop only had the car for two days.

I mean, come-on...I can understand moving around the mirrors, especially if they had to take the car on the road, but can't they leave the freaking seat alone. I'm very picky about my drivers side seat, and I have been spending the last two weeks trying to get the seat back to where it is comfortable for me.

One reply:
No reputable business goes door to door. That goes for charities and surveys, too.

Unless they show a badge or a warrant, the door stays shut. I won't answer it.
If they do show a badge or other official document, the appropriate party gets called to verify.

Usually if a power or gas company wants to check equipment, they notify you in writing that they will be around on such and such a date, and tell you to identify the person who shows up. You are allowed to call and check.

We have so many scammers out here that officialdom TELLS you to check.

I got threatened with bodily harm after I refused to let a scammer roofer on the roof. If this hurts legitimate business, then too bad.

Auto makers who change things around during the model-year.

I am in the third month of trying to wire up an adapter harness for a new stereo for the SUV, and I just realized that one of the connectors is again incorrect, so I will be buying a fourth set of harness kits.

I hate car audio. I've installed a couple stereos now and it's always a huge PITA.

When it comes time to replace the factory Ford stereo in my Fusion(and I'm certain that time is not far off), I think I'll end up paying somebody to do it, just to save my own sanity.

So the latest horror to befall humanity. Zoolander 2 is Transphobic.

With all that goes on in the world it amazes me what people will grab onto to be offended by.

Just a question, what happened to the general understanding of humor? Is there a such thing as humor anymore? Is the world so politically correct that we should all just stop trying to be funny?

I mean I do not want people to be hurt, offended or made suicidal by popular media, I get it. But really, I could totally be offended by "King of Queens" with the way it portrays fat, white, married, middle aged guys that don't get paid enough. But no one cares about that.
