Although regional accents/dialects are quaint, people are pre-judged by the way they sound e.g. historically someone with a broad northern accent was an uneducated, mainly manual labourer. Whereas someone with a 'posh' accent was a person of intelligence. I think this still carries over to today. I don't know if this sort of thing happens in the US at all?
My kids have grown up in the south west of england, and have a neutral accent, which I'm happy with.

Well I can only mention my own experiences, but, trust me, dialect prejudice does exist in the USA.

For example, many times people with southern accents are thought of is uneducated or stupid.

Also at times, people with California Valley accent tend to be thought of as airheads.

Also people who have deep Boston accents or Brooklyn accent, many times, are thought of is uneducated.

Check out some of the 'stereotypes' you can find on the internet, and you will see what I mean.

I saw a portion of an infomercial for a "Telikin" computer for Seniors...

I know nothing about this machine, and yet I'm certain that it would result in grief of I were to plop down a grand or whatever for one for my mom.

I don't think that even that would help the Vulcan. He was used to calling a tech to even change a mouse on his computer.

He bought a book for his Kindle from Baen. They can't download so send it to computer. I told him to use the charging cable. He told me it didn't have a standard USB end. I had given him a standard charger and plug, so I checked.

He'd been charging the old Kindle with the charger from the Alcatel Flip phone.

I might not be the absolute best there is at what I currently do, but I like to think I'm pretty damn good at it... Considering I'm the only guy doing at this job, guess I am the best.

At any rate, I got three bad actors on my shelf at the same time: two of them I can't duplicate the problem on bench, but the get pulled for the same thing every time they go on the aircraft. All I can do is replace while assemblies instead of troubleshooting down to a faulty component.

The third is on-bench now. I can get it to fail... Intermittently. Problem is, the bad assembly is buried inside the unit and I can't get to it while running diagnostics. I will have to cobble together some extension cables to get other parts out of the way, and of course I don't have the right connectors on-hand.

Can't even find them at the corner electronics shop...

In NC, it's been wet, miserable and every area that I have pain has been AWAKE.

MORE RED TAPE. Looking forward to it...

Ok, back to motor insurance. I have to rant here, and if you can't rant in a rant thread, where can you?

It seems like the motor insurance process in this Country is completely broken. Picture the scene - you're sitting at a junction, waiting patiently for a gap in the traffic. Moron in van then shunts into the back of you, splitting your rear door. Not to worry, our fully comp insurance policy will sort this out.
Wrong!! Scumbag owner of said van denies being anywhere near the vicinity of the accident. Insurance company then gives up, with there being no possibility of recovering losses from the third party.
So what exactly am I paying my £200 insurance premium for?

Don't they track license plates there? I suppose he could claim the van was stolen.

That's not what he said though. He just blatantly lied and said the van was not there. Lies. My OH got the vehicle license plate, but unfortunately got little else in the way of details, as she was understandably shocked, with crying kids in the car.

Grab your phone and snap a picture of him and his van.

Should have done that at the scene of the crash, but unfortunately didn't.
This guy is not someone I want to tangle with in any case - violent with a string of motoring convictions. Seems like his main hobby is driving while disqualified.
Could have been a *lot* worse, if our car had been shunted into the path of oncoming traffic on the main road, so should be thankful all we have is a slightly crushed car.

Here in the US, leaving the scene of an accident can land you in jail.
There must have been some of your paint on his van.
Don't the police over there get involved in hit and run cases?
If the police determine he was at the scene of the accident, a civil case is in order
regardless of his insurance company's desire not to pay.

It was a very low speed incident, so I don't think there was any damage at all to the van. However it has cracked ours, requiring a replacement rear door. That will cost £££'s.

Yes driving away from the scene of an accident is a criminal offence in the UK too. This wasn't the case though, as the driver stopped and got out. However my wife just didn't get enough in the way of identity, and there were no witnesses.
Police don't normally get involved unless it's a bigger accident, involving injury or major damage. If that had happened, the other guy could clearly not deny being there. But as I say, thankfully nobody was hurt.

So what I'm going to do is nothing. No claim, and just have to live with the damage on my car. If I do go ahead and claim, it will go down as my fault, I'll have to pay my excess, and future policy renewals will be loaded up accordingly.

Just chalk it down to experience and remember next time to get full details.

My wife is a fender bender magnet, thankfully not her fault. I just swear there is some weird force field that blocks driving skills in the parking lots of nail places. Anyway, her habit is pic of the two cars, pic of the plates, pic of any damage or non damage, pic of hers and their license and registration. That way she can prove they were the other party, and that they don't try to pull a fast one later claiming damage from an unrelated incident.
