Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

1) Cruising down the road. A two lane road. There are two cars in front of you. The lead car is going frustratingly slow. The car directly in front of you changes lanes, only to go the same speed as the aforementioned slowpoke.

2) Cruising down the road. A two lane road. You are the lead car, you are coming up to a red light, some quaterwit changes lanes at the last minute to get ahead of you and be the first car to the light. The light turns green, this clown proceeds to pull of the line at a whopping 12 MPH.

I am trying really hard not to lose it... My daughter managed to go 4GB over our allotted amount in two weeks.

That's $90 in overage charges and we still have a week left in the period...

You need a new plan, Sir. Data allotment is a thing of the past everywhere else since everyone is pushing Unlimited plans. [emoji41]

I need to stop turning off the Wi-Fi at night for a start... That might actually solve the problem, but I'm definitely going to have to explain to her (again) that there is a definite limit on data, and that I will charge her directly for any more overages.

...then her mom and sister will have to explain it as well.

Carrier unlimited plans, usually have some limits though, like throttling when more than a certain limit is reached, or the unlimited is limited to select sites and services only. Like I have unlimited music streaming with Xiaomi from my carrier, but if I use another music service that counts as metered cellular data.

I have looked at changing from my present Verizon 4 gB plan to an unlimited plan...

the only reason we really need to use data is because my wife is in the hospital and my daughter and I keep each other up todate with long MMS messages.

we trade shifts with her, 12 on, 12 off, and been doing that since August.....
I had 1 gB carried over from last month unused. should have been good to go for this month.

we are now in day 8 of the new cycle and I see the icon shows 59% remaining out of 5.08 gB

that is a hard hit.... i am going to definitely shut down on sending pictures....

hmmmm, now that I mention that, i am the guilty party, because the wife's doctor wanted to see how her surgery was healing, and I have been sending him update photos...

gonna have to watch it tight the rest of the month.

In retrospect, I think the real f'up was when I tried to send him a short video....
Verizon took it, and sent it, but his phone did not accept it.
That is the last time I ever send a video on MMS, it will be WiFi from now on.

Gait analysis. It's the biggest load of crap ever. I just went to buy some new running shoes, and noticed they had a treadmill, so I asked if I could run a couple of km on it to test the shoes. No sir was the reply, but you can use it if you let us do a gait analysis on you. Ok I say, how much is it. Nothing. Fine then let's do it.
It turns out the 'analysis' part is to freeze frame the impact of my foot on the treadmill belt, and draw a line from the top to bottom on the heel part of my foot. This apparently proves that I over-pronate, requiring the purchase of a cushioned insole (£29.99), or more expensive cushioned shoes to correct it. I'm betting that they could take any person, and get that line to be off vertical in a few frames. Nobody hits the road completely flat footed.
But pronation is how all feet work, when we walk or run, usually the outside of the foot goes down first, and it rolls to the inside. It's natural, why would I want to mess around with the foot's natural mechanics? And by the way, if I could, I'd be running barefoot, because that's the natural way humans should be walking/running. So the less shoe/insole that gets in the way of that, the better, IMO. I didn't say all the above in the shop, just nodded and said I'd buy only the shoes, and thanks for letting me use your treadmill. :)

I went into settings-apps and cut off most of Google's background data and many perms, like locations and other unnecessary accesses. In return, my data consumption has been cut by at least a third & my battery lasts me all day again. A lot of Google's apps have way more perms than is reasonable and other apps too, like Messenger.. IMO [emoji41]

It's crazy. I have used all of 3GB this month... That's more than usual, but I am setting up a new phone... Daughter is well on her way to 12GB in the space of two weeks.

Boost Mobile's unlimited plan now gives like 22GB before any data restrictions and those are barely noticeable now

Apparently I am a physical Jinks to teams...I was rooting for Penn State in the Rose Bowl, and USC won in dramatic fashion...

Well then, start rooting for the other team.

I know that, duh!!!

just got into the habit of leaving it all on.... sheesh!
guess I will trim it back a bit this month....

staying in the hospital all day long, 12 hours at at time, me daylight 7-7, my daughter night 7-7, both of us using our cellphones to keep up entertained while babysitting mom/wife.... it is hitting our batteries really hard, and the data plan is taking a heavy hit, even though the hospital has WiFi.....

but there WiFi takes serious hits thru the day and drops out on us, and I think our phones are jumping over to the DATA channel during those brief times.

I think on my Note 4 rooted, that I will just turned DATA off and leave it off.....
would really screw up trying to send/receive MMS though.

Dad's doing well but was in the ER again last week. I've learned that afib can be a pain in the butt!

He had the atrial ablation just before Christmas, and he's on some meds now that are supposed to help retrain his heart to beat at the correct rate while it's healing from the procedure. We won't know how successful this has been for a few months.
