Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

3 months after getting my laptop back from Asus....my BSOD issues are back again. It took 4 or 5 tries to even get my computer to boot up just barely.

So Google Play decided to change all of my purchased movies to expired rentals.

Don't be evil, Google.

Google decided that some apps purchased from Green Mountain Digital would not work on the Oppo. Grayed out when I tried to get databases. Repurchased same apps for 99 cents on a sale at Amazon. Now Google is telling me there are updates for some of the apps.

Somehow, I think I'd rather get updates from Amazon or at least check. If none are adding a new species, just social junk, I'll pass anyway. This is not a rant against Google or Amazon. The company that is now controlling the apps is getting a downvote. I bought the apps before that company bought GMD. I know the company from real life.

I'm tired of hearing about the "near miss" between two rival self-driving cars... It was a statement taken out of context, the cars both did what they were supposed to do, and it shouldn't be headline news (unless that news is, "Look, they work!).

Even worse is when the headlines are conflated into epic disasters, like The Register's: "Abort, abort! Metal-on-metal VIOLENCE as Google's robo-car nearly CRASHES"

Then there is the obligatory road-rage reference in the by-line... looks like another site going on my blacklist.

I got rear ended today (fairly low speed). But my rant is: I'm 51 yrs old & have managed to get this far in life without running into other vehicles. I've now been hit four times: rear ended twice, hit in front once & on the driver's side once. I imagine there are people who have been hit more, but... come on! Why are there so many bad drivers on the road? And my accidents have all been in the suburbs.

Those rear-endings can be a real pain in the neck...

Isn't a near miss called a collision?

So far I'm really enjoying my Nexus 6....but I do have one little rant.

It started out with one united build between all devices....but with 5.1 each carrier sent out their own build. Mine came with LMY47E, which is Verizon's 5.1 build. I'm on ST AT&T. It works fine, nonetheless, although it could be the source of my sub <10 Mbps LTE speeds.

In order to move to 5.1.1., it appears I have 2 options. Find somebody with a VZW sim and put it in(and probably receive VZW bloatware), or flash LMY47Z(the universal 5.1.1 build). I highly doubt AT&T is going to send out an OTA that takes me from Verizon's build to AT&T's 5.1.1 build.

Guess it's time to unlock that bootloader.

Hope you are OK!

Someone I know had a front and rear car cam installed. Not even a month later a guy made a u-turn (on a solid line even!) in front of him. Makes me want to install one as well.

Hope you're ok, low speed and all. :(

Hope you are OK!

Thanks guys, yes I think so. I was stopped at a red light with 1 or 2 cars in front of me. The light turned green & I had barely started moving forward (waiting for the people in front of me to speed up), & the person behind me must have hit the gas somewhat hard because I felt my head bounce back into the headrest. Later, I noticed that the change in my dash compartment (which angles downward) had been propelled out of the compartment & was by my feet. There's some damage to my rear bumper (it looks kind of minor but I'm still going to get it looked at), but I feel fine.

I'm a little concerned because I didn't call the police to report it. I got her insurance info. & name & number, she suggested that when I find out the cost of any repairs she'd rather give me cash than go through her insurance, because she said she had recently been rear-ended & was afraid 2 incidents would really cause her insurance to increase. At the time, I was feeling a little frazzled because I was running a couple errands in between a hair appt. & a massage & I only had a certain amount of time.

As long as there's nothing to worry about with my car that I can't see, I guess I can live with a small dent & some scrapes in the bumper if she ends up denying everything. But I'm really wishing I'd called to file a police report, just to be on the safe side.

Here in Vegas, metro PD won't respond to an accident unless there is a need for medical assistance.
Stabbings for everyone!!

I typed a long reply here, but this lovely app screwed up posting it. :(

I said... I learned to take pics of everything after a collision; the cars, license plates, drivers, the situation, the damage, the skid marks. Better than any witness or police report.

Early morning rant:

#1: Yesterday (up until the present) was a day that was my body, wracked in pain. Pain medicine helps somewhat, but the side effects like non-existent peristalsis in my digestive tract causes my bathroom visits to be yet another excursion into pain.

Damn it. This is further proof that neurosurgeons are mere human beings like the rest of us, not 'Orthopod' gods.

#2: To top things off, our Border Collie had diarrhea around 1:30 this morning - which he shared with our living room carpet. My baby was asleep, so I didn't wake her. Stiffly, I cleaned up the foul mess.

The poor dog looked so heartbroken, as he is very well house-trained.

Please let me get a few hours of sleep. May everyone have a good Sunday. :)

Had a Border Collie wonderful animal with a great disposition for 17 years she passed last year. Now I have a Norwegian Elk Hound. Interesting breed. Very intimidating and definitely a one owner dog.

Norwegian Elk Hound - beauty and grace, with the disposition of a Chesapeake Bay Retriever - definitely a one owner dog as you observed, starkraving.

Laddy, our Border Collie, is a handful. Yet, such intelligence and emotion is such a great thing to have in a canine.

He can be so loving, and he's loyal to a fault. He's a talker. If you ask him, "Want some chicken?" - his stub of a tail starts wiggling. Then, when you say, "Where's your manners?" - he'll answer back in his inside voice: "Bow-Rurrr."

He's so adorable and emotional, yet he can be so willful. Definitely a candidate for 'Doggie Prozac'... (chuckle) - LW

I can't wait to be done with Beast Mobile, and get a fully rootable phone... I envy bjacks12, and anyone in this thread that
