Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I think that social media like Facebook is ANTI-social media. I've actually fallen out with people over misunderstood comments, differences of opinion, de-friending and garbage like this.
You have to be very careful what you say on there. These days I use it primarily for posting funny pictures, and links to funny video clips.

Facebook's lack of allowing you to put emoticons inside the text, and to space out between paragraphs, causes more misunderstandings than anything else. most folks just blather on, and while they think they know what they typed, they usually don't.

I have "unfollowed" several of the "friends" that I meet up with at Motorcycle Rallys.... somehow, on FB they simply loose all sense of "verbal etiquette"

I spent a couple years there from 09-11, and half of my FB feed is made up of Filipinos(who almost unanimously supported Duterte). So I've become very weary of all the political posting(in addition to our own BS here in Murica).

Well to be fair, Duterte does have some things good goinh for him when he said his plans right after being declared presumptive winner. But other stuff are jusy questionable. I didn't vote for him. What I don't like more are some of his less educated uncouth supporters who scream at you for being an idiot and even uneducated for not voting Duterte, but when you talk to them in an intellectual manner they can't answer back, and when you look at their profiles they're high school or college undergrads who aren't employed calling graduates of prestigious universities like Ateneo, Wharton, etc as idiots. It's crazy. One of the bad traits of the Filipino. Lol.

I found the answer to my mass text unsubscribe mystery from Saturday - apparently it's because I ported my number from Sprint to ProjectFi (I did that the middle of last week, so it didn't occur to me that would be the answer).

Stupid Sprint.

That is definitely true, and to an extent, all online forms of communication suffer from it. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that trying to have a debate on any forum is pointless, because you lose the element of non-verbal communication that's involved in face to face human interaction.
But here's an example of a Facebook incident I had - I happened to criticise the NHS (National Health Service) in the UK, and the way it's run. In my experience there are a lot of problems. But one of my "friends" took this as an attack on his wife, who works as a nurse in the NHS. Things got heated, and we ended up not friends any more, in real terms too, not just FB.

Fixed that for you. And if you're stupid enough, your actions on Facebook can get you into legal trouble. That's one of the main reasons why I never created an account there.

I think people take de-friending on Facebook as a grievous insult. But in fact, as pointed out above, you just may not like what they are saying there. Plus, there may be other reasons for de-friending, like you don't want the other person to know your personal business any more, yet stay on an amicable relationship with them. It really is fraught with difficulties.

As elections has just finished here:

People who suddenly become political analysts on Facebook when their opinions are obviously made by idiots.

And it's gonna continue in the States for another 6 months. Get ready for the nasty name calling ads.

All of the nonsense this year is starting to read like a trashy novel. The genre could be compared to romance but it looks more like dystopian. Everybody is name calling and fighting or starting to fight in the ranks.

Lots of road construction here in the KC area, coming into work today on the HWY where a lot of said construction is taking place, a nice piece of concrete about the size of a golf ball got flung at my vehicle by the truck in front of me. Luckily it nicked the upper corner of my front windshield and nothing else. UNLUCKILY it chipped said windshield and made a nice 3 inch or so crack. Safelite will be out between noon and 5 today to repair it. For the low low price of $150.50

I have not even owned it for a year.

My 1 year anniversary of ownership is 2 weeks from today. But I love this little car and do not want to end up with it getting worse. A big fat load of BULLSHACKA

Which is why I tend to ignore the number of five-stars altogether and rather look at the ratio of four-stars to three and below, and then I read the lowest star reviews...

Does your state not require insurance to cover the cost of windshield damage?

Well I'll be dipped in molasses. Went out to my car at lunch (waiting for Safelite to get here between noon and 5) and discover that my little 2 to 3 inch crack is now easily 18 - 24 inches ... (lucky me, 48 degrees this morning and about 65 and sunny now - where's all the darn cool rainy days when I need em right?) so NOW it will 90% be a new windshield (anything over 6 inches usually is) that even with the discount through State Farm my total would be $309.00 ... GRRRR

Sigh :(

"Over 500 five-star reviews on Amazon.com!" Still doesn't mean it's worth reading.

Particularly when nearly every non-five-star reviewer said the same thing: the book is a badly done retelling of the new Battlestar Galactica series.

One could see that from the blurb, even.
I don't really have a problem with giving free products for an honest review. Especially in the book world it is common practice. I wouldn't give a five star review just because I got something for free and I don't think most other people would either. I do have a problem with the companies they hire to spam positive reviews. Very shady business. The Amazon book reviews are very unreliable. I always read some positive, some negative, then usually read the sample before I pull the trigger on a book.
