RAZR M: First Impressions

I had the gnexus and I loved it, but the girlfriend wanted the nexus. So I had a upgrade so I decided I would upgrade and get something new, I got the log intuition. Loved the screen, wasn't hard to carry around and instant conversation starter. But sluggish, I wanted performance and battery over screen. I went to Verizon and exchanged the intuition for the razr m. I had been hearing nothing but great things about the s4 so I decided on the m. Here are my first impressions:

Appearance: to be honest I thought this phone was ugly, too thick to be a razr and exposed screws plastic port covers, looking more at it, they choose a battery over thin, its stock battery is just about as big as my extended life nexus battery. The screws I still don't care for but that's easily forgotten.

Performance: snappy, super peppy I haven't ran into a single thing it can't handle. First thing I did was fire up quadrant, and the highest score I have ever gotten! 4673, I'll take that as a good win.

Screen: The screen to me is great, rich blacks and deep color, even not HD and I can't tell. Didn't have any mistypes with the digitizer no viewing angle issues noticed, I seem to have no issues with it, this one dependant on the person.

Cameras: the shutter is quick faster then my nexus was, quality is pretty good, there is many features and options on the camera even HDR is an option.

Battery life: so far this is the best feature, normal use with lte always on and 5 hours in and still at 83% battery, I'll do more in depth looking later. And update it on here later.

Software: I had the original razr and I loved smart actions I was glad to see them on here, the quick settings on the home page is a good way to combat the quick toggles. Ton of bloatware, thankfully there is the ability to disable installed apps. So very nice and the favorites section is great. Its the least changed UI I have seen of android.

Signal/ radios: its Motorola so they know how to have great call quality and that's true with this phone, sound is great the calls I made were very clear, signals are lower then most lte phones, my nexus and the intuition both had full bars at my house the razr m has four out of the 5 bars, I haven't had any issues with connections but it has less then normal signal

Overall: until the razr HD comes out this is a great pick, for only 99 on contract its a steal! I think this will have to be my daily for awhile :-)

My headphone jack stopped working this morning! My usual commute on the train turned into a frustrating ride. Tried my headphones on my laptop and they work fine. Any suggestions. Warranty should cover it with a new replacement. (too soon for refurbished hopefully).

It was lint. Removed it carefully with paper clip

to those that are seeing good battery life...if the battery wasn't as good as you are saying, would you still be happy with your new m or would you be looking at swapping for another device?

Given the size of the device and the size of the battery, I wouldn't have unrealistic expectations. But given the screen, newer / more efficient processor, I would expect to at least match the GS3, if not exceed it. That was my gauge anyway...

If the battery sucked, I'd get rid of it. But that would be true of any phone. If it were slightly worse, I'd still keep it because it's the only phone this size with good specs.

i'm really interested in this phone. it'll be the 'i' here in the uk but i think there is very little difference between them. the size appeals to me as does the battery life. if the screen is maybe not as good as others out there, then so be it. i'd rather have the form factor and battery.

i'm trying out a gnex at the mo but think i'll find it too big to be a 'pocket' phone. the battery drains pretty quick too.

thanks yes i've been following that thread with interest. hopefully with get a 'i' next week to play with for a few days. really hoping for good things from it :)

Definitely disappointing. Can sit next to someone else on Verizon with an HTC Incredible 4G and watch them surf with their 4G-3bars while I try to connect with 3G-1bar. Returned phone and got another and it is equally as pathetic. Razr M appears to inherently have a weak signal; maybe an antenna design flaw.

I got this phone for the wife last friday. She loves the design. The battery life is really good even for her. She's a super picky person and she actually hasn't said anything negative about the phone...yet. That's a miracle!!! :p
