Help Razr m screen flashing on and off

JG1977

Lurker
I have recently replaced the touch screen and the digitizer on my RazrM. Now it is flashing on and off every 20 seconds. Can someone please help!

You misconnected something, left something disconnected or broke something. You can keep fooling with it, breaking more things, until yout post reads, "now that the phone won't even turn on ..."

Or you can bring it to a repair shop (which is what you should have done in the first place) and have it repaired properly (for more money than doing it yourself "saved" you).

JG1977, welcome to the site :hello:

I wish I had more info for you. However, I fear that taking it to a repair shop may be the solution you need, unless you feel comfortable trying to find out what you did wrong during the repair.

good luck

Thank You Teddyearp! I cracked my screen a while back. It still worked but was afraid if I continued using it, the cracks would get worse. The only thing that was not put back on the phone was the gummy seal, which I did not have. I don't think that would cause the screen to flash off every 20 seconds or so. Very frustrating

Yeah. I wish I could be of more help, but I've never had/tried to tackle a situation such as yours

Good luck

Thanks bigbadwulff, yeah, I tried that. Just gonna deal with the flashing until my contract runs out.
God bless you!

Hi there! I am glad that I found your post, because the same happens with me.
I have changed the screen ( ordered replacement from e t r a d e s u p p l y - just wondering if from the same?) and since then it is randomly going off and on. BUT not with every software! Interestingly it even does the same in recovery (TWRP 2.3), but installing the TWRP 2.6 or above stops it happening in the recovery. I have tried various ROMs so far. The Eclipse ver3 did not flicker, but it has a problem with the radios here in Europe. Stock + stock based ROM (Rage 1.2) are also switching on-off. I am currently looking for a working ROM. Let me know if someone with the same problem can find one.

Also tried to play with developer options like Disable HW overlays or Force GPU rendering with no effect.

I wonder if it is a different hardware version of the replacement screen or what else can it be?

Good news. Installing CyanogenMOD 11 solved the screen flashing issues and everything seems to work right. Go for it!

Hi! Both my wife and I have Razr M's on Verizon running Android 4.1.2, System Version 98.18.94.XT907. I just did the same as JG1977 and OROSZMS - that is, replaced my wife's cracked Razr M screen with a replacement (screen and digitizer) from E Trade Supply. Does anyone know or suspect if the problem is something hardware related (e.g. a defect in the part from E Trade Supply, or a mistake made during the repair), or software? I mean, it seems strange that it would be an installation mistake, since when the screen is on, it's perfect. It just flashes black for a split second about once every 20 seconds, on average (sometimes more, sometimes less). This indicates (in my mind) either a defect in the part, or some incompatibility with the original hardware or Android.

I'm glad you found a solution OROSZMS! Is this still working for you? What is Cyanogen MOD 11 exactly - does this constitute "jailbreaking" or "modding" the phone?

I will be very grateful for any help I can get!

mcjohn78, welcome to the site :hello:

With your situation, it could be a bad part as oroszms used the same vendor.

Though to further answer, the solution that oroszms found does involve 'jailbreaking' the phone however, I do not believe the exploit is available on your software version.

good luck

I'm happy to report that we received the KitKat update overnight/early this morning, and after the upgrade, the screen flashing to black problem has gone away! Looks like it wasn't a defective screen/digitizer from etrade supply, but something software related. :D:D
