yes they do.

Well duh, I was being facetious. Of course single core and dual core phones can throttle back. THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE (just a short post back, seems like just yesterday) is the dual cores are battery hogs, when they were supposed to be more powerful and more efficient than single cores. They certainly are more powerful, but also burn down battery faster. I'll believe in quad core power saving magic when I see it.

Give me a comparison of two phones with similar specs other than the processor. The best I can come up with is Droid X vs Droid X2...they have the exact same battery life according to Motorola.

So it's officially confirmed that the RAZR Maxx is coming out on the 26th, and that the normal RAZR price is dropping to $199?

Just want to make sure that's what's happening because I bought my RAZR on the 13th and I've got 14 days after my purchase date for them to match a lower price if my phone price changes (i.e. if my phone now costs $199 as of the 26th, I can go back to the store and they'll refund me $100).

I am kind of in the same boat, but I am not sure that they will do this. They remove the SD card from the reduced price Razr and say it is a differnt phone.(different SKU).

Hope I am wrong...

I hope you're wrong too....

Why would they offer the RAZR 32gb for $299 and the RAZR Maxx 32gb for $299?

Maybe the 16gb version of the RAZR will drop to $99 next Thursday? I have no idea, but I'm trying to keep my hopes up for the time being.

Unfortunately, my 14 days ends Saturday...but I did get the Verizon store to match an online price of $249 (as opoosed to $299) when I bought it. Good luck, let us know how it turns out and what they tell you.

Damn my store said they wouldn't match any online prices, but I still went with them anyways because I had the "new every two" $100 discount.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, and I'll let you guys know what happens next week.

The brand new high end bricks and mortar store near my house refused to match the price and were a bunch of complete asses. (not the first bad experience) Rude, condesending I will never set foot in the place again. (I did congrat the manager when I left advising that "hey, congrats you have managed to assemble a staff that provides horrible customer service every time I have been in this place, your employees ability to be so horrible at every interaction is impressive. I am sure you are proud"

I went to a mall Verizon kiosk by my office, spoke with a manager and guess what? They matched the price, provided excellent service and now I have a pretty good contact at Verizon. She even waived the $35 restock since the other store was suck a mess.

I would have thought that the experience would have been reveresed. I had always dismissed the kiosk stores as a joke, but no longer.

I work at a department store that has a Verizon kiosk in it, so I could get my 15% employee discount, but they couldn't match online prices (same as the actual Verizon store) and couldn't match the $100 "new every two" discount.

I did the math, for me it is not worth the hassle. I paid $249 for the phone (company discount), if i return it and get the $199 on sale. pay $35 restock. Net $15 and I still need to buy and sd card, which will be more than $15.

Then the Maxx drops 1 day after my 14 days are up. Oh well, I love the phone I have and it will serve me well until my next upgrade to a quad (or higher) phone!

I'll let you know if there are any price changes next Thursday.

Maybe (if the people at the Verizon store are considerate) they'll let me just avoid any hassle, if the cost doesn't change that is. If restocking is $35 and the 16gb card is $50, then I still get $15 back (and I kinda need any amount of money back I can get), though they could NOT be douchebags and wave the restocking fee to let me keep my phone, then give me the $100 price difference, and from that subtract the cost of a 16gb card. Then I'd end up saving $50, though I doubt anyone working for Verizon would be considerate like that.

Lucky!!
-
I actually purchased my phone on the 20th of dec but had a 30 day return period so just missed.
-
One thign I noticed (as a new verizon customer) is that the 2x data plans are now dead (i.e, i got 4gb instead of 2gb - though verizon still restricts how i use that data)
-
If you return the phone and you did not have an existing plan (i.e, if you got the 4gb plan you might want to double check how they handle it)

Good point. I know when I called customer service to do the upgrade over the phone they insisted that I would lose my grandfathered unlimited data plan. Going to the store, with the article (tweet) from Verizon in hand verified that.

I'll give you a relevant comparison. Take three phones doing the exact same thing...nothing. They are sitting there on wifi, or 3g if you prefer, but otherwise not having any user interaction. Leave LTE out of it.

One is a Droid X, one a Razr, one a Bionic. I guarantee the Droid X will outlast the other two, even though they have bigger batteries and newer radios from Motorola and more advanced versions of Android.

And seriously, manufacturer specs are to be taken as fact?! Besides, I think we've already seen what happens to excess power capability. Since the software isn't being tuned for multi core units, the savings will be rarely realized.

So, we are stuck with jamming a battery three times the size we saw a couple years ago into a phone to deliver basically the same life. Progress indeed.

Probably is the case and by design ;) ...... :(

Please elaborate... I got the 10 GB/$50 plan, and intend to enter a 2-year contract when the Maxx is released. I live in a good LTE area (Indianapolis, which I've been mapping with Sensorly with a borrowed Bionic), but I often travel in 3G and "Extended 3G" areas. I use Dish Remote Access (Slingbox), Google Nav, Waze, etc. every day. Is there something I should know before signing a contract??? Thanks!

Try to take over someones contract that they want out of. Craigslist might be able to help. Find one with the unlimited plan. this will save you lots in the long run and if you really want the razr maxx I would go out and buy it outright and sell the smartphone you get on craigslist to put towards it.

Thats a 480 dollar savings for a 24 month contract if you were to stick with the 50 dollar one vs the 30 dollar unlimited that would save you money and you would not have to worry about data ever again! Plus you can keep it forever

I'm not allowed to share the data with my tablet via wifi - for example .... even though I've already paid for the data :)

I think its nice they are releasing the maxx. Its still going to be thin as its only a mm more than the vanilla razr.

I got the vanilla razr for xmas, and I love it and am having no battery life issues so far... I start the day at 7am and by 11pm I'm at 20% battery... and I simply plug my phone to my computer and when I'm up in the morning the phone's fully charged and ready to go.

I think I'll be holding onto the vanilla razr as it works for me. Besides, costco has a 90 day price matching policy. I got the phone for $290 so I'm sure once the maxx is out the vanilla razr price is gonna bust... and if I'm gonna get $100 or more back, I'll be more than happy :D

I don't understand why some people are so butthurt over motorola releasing the maxx... I mean people were bitching about bad battery life on the vanilla razr (trust me, I watch 2-3 episodes of TV shows, browse the web, check emails, and take calls about 1-2 hrs a day... and I never run out of battery) so motorola releases the maxx for hardcore users... but now they're butthurt. Yeah its not the better screen or camera, but its still the SAME price as the vanilla razr. What more do ya want lol... its the same phone but with a MASSIVE battery..

I use smart function to turn data off when display is off and use 4g only when plugged in.

If you want to actually use 4g much without the battery dying quickly, the Maxx is the better bet. Kind of hard to dispute.
