Razr, Rezound, GNex? Who's leaving the 'bolt?

That is really all that matters IMO. If you are happy with your current phone and don't have any need to upgrade then there is no reason to rush it. After all what is new now will be old tech in 6 months.

I was going to do this with my GF's upgrade but I'm not so sure anymore. If the phone would've released sooner I would've got it for sure but since I've got all this time to think it over I think I'll just wait until my upgrade is available.

I don't think Verizon ever officially announced a release date. Yeah things were leaked but most the hype have come from android news sites and forums

The more I got thinking about it, I might actually add it as line #4 to our plan, and just swapping it over to my current line with unlimited data, and putting a basic onto it. I can always find a use for a $10 a month line for someone, and it gives me the freedom to test it out. If I don't like it, I can go back to my Bolt, and sell it outright to recover money.

I'm keeping mine until late next year (assuming it doesn't get stolen, damaged etc). I don't see anything compelling enough in any of the currently available phones to warrant a switch.

I don't normally care about looks, but as far as aesthetics are concerned, the Nexus is downright ugly. One would think that they'd put a bit more effort into the design considering it is a flagship device.

I gave my Bolt to my wife and got a Rezound. Wife loves it--the first smartphone she's ever been happy with. While the Rezound's screen is awesome, the HD aspect means that pretty much everything looks smaller, and more than a few apps don't bother to scale--even Angry Birds (increases the challenge...). Big, easy-to-read screen is where the Bolt excels. It was a bit rocky at first as far as firmware goes, but everything worked out and the Bolt is quite a solid performer. The new OTA may make it even better.

Rezound, btw, is the most stable smartphone I've ever had right out of the box. No rocky honeymoon period at all...

Added a GNex last night to the plan (added a new line for it, put a cheapo on that # and put the GNex in place of my Bolt). Never had any issues with my Bolt. It's been a great phone, and still is. As far as I'm concerned, it still ranks right up there with the newer phones, as long as you haven't had any issues. And mine's still stock. But other than processing power, it's still right up there, and that's an 8 month old phone. I originally thought about selling it to recover costs on the GNex, but to be honest, I don't think I can part with it. So far, probably the best phone I've owned (again, I had a trouble-free Bolt from day one, so I know others will disagree).

But...the GNex is the new hotness, so to speak. So, we'll see how it fares

There are a lot of complaints now that people have the Nexus in their hands. Spend some time reading the forum and you'll feel a lot better about sticking with the T bolt.

Oh, I've already made the switch over, but I'm not gonna sell my Bolt just yet either. Been on the Nexus forums since last night, reading over stuff. Gotta say though, aside from a couple minor things that appear software-fixable, and the small ICS learning curve (menu button where? oh...dots.), it's pretty slick. But, so far I'm happy with it.

Only thing that would be better, is if VZW had a SIM system for accounts, not just LTE. Would love the ability to switch devices at will without having to burn a new SIM card each time lol. (well, aside from using microSIMs in the Nex, vs regular ones in the Bolt, etc).

I personally love the look of the nexus, the all glass front is good looking IMO. Of course to each his own I didn't like the "chin" on the charge and others thing it is great looking.

I love my TB, never had any issues, but I have this issue where I get bored of my phone, perhaps I should join a support group or something, plus the other line on my account is/was screwed up. Only complaint I have is the phone is so thin and light, compared to all the other android phones I have had (OG droid, D2G, TB) the gnex is the lightest and I am used to the bolt, I put a case on it and it is a bit better more like the thickness of the bolt but still doesn't feel as rugged as the others. Had I not had an upgrade and the "need" for a new phone every few months I would have been happy sticking with the bolt it is a great phone!

ICS took a little while to adjust to for me as well. I was bummed about the SIM thing as well thinking I would be able to switch between the two phones at will if I needed.

I was going to wait until summer to see what Apple comes up with but I busted my screen again so I went with the Resound. So far I'm pretty happy. The battery life is great. I'm traveling today so I started in 4g Houston and ended up in 3G north Texas. Standard email and a lot of Google Maps plus a bit of video streaming and I'm still at 60%.

Yesterday I spent two hours on the NFL Redzone in 4g land and only lost 20%.

The screen is pretty neat too. Not sure about the whole beats thing but I'll give that a try on my next flight. The only thing I really miss is the built in kickstand. I like to carry my phones without a case or cover and the kickstand was very useful on planes.

As someone said earlier, it's crazy how often people play "musical phones".

Seems that a lot of people just got into their contract, and their TB just 6 months ago or so and already want the next new thing. LOL!

I love new toys but I don't go look up the newest thing too much, that way I don't know what I'm missing in the new device.

For the past several years I've been slow to upgrade each time.

I used my Treo 700wx (Windows Mobile 5.1) until it was well worn and many months beyond my contract.

I got the original HTC touch for my wife.
At the time I thought I'd never want to give up a real keyboard.

Then I got the HTC imagio with Windows 6.5
It's menu did suck so I changed ran the mobile shell in it almost right away and then a cooked rom. That phone was EASY to modify.

I ran that sucker until all the websites like youtube just quit working on it.
(Didn't help that SkyFire browser, whcih I used since my Treo days, stabbed us Windows Mobile users in the back when they released a iPhone and Android version).

So then I finally got a Thunderbolt earlier this summer when 4G finally came to my side of town.

It is snappy and does everything I want. I finally rooted so I could tether via wifi to my laptop.

I have no need, that I know of, to upgrade. Because, once again, it does what I need it to (watch youtube/facebook/hulu) and I don't play with new phone to know what I am missing. I haven't even used a rom yet. But this menu is fine, so I don't think I will.

The TB is still relatively new, so I am surprised to see so many people here say they want to upgrade already.

As soon as you get that next phone, one month later something "Better" will come out and you will be saying the same thing! LOL!

I think the upgrades is the game they play. They release new phones just often enough to get people to upgrade or change carriers.

The answer isn't always that simple. I don't want to get a new phone. I don't care about the latest and greatest. I kept my iPhone 3GS for three years. I got my TBolt the first week of April and it has been relatively trouble free since then. I got it for the hot spot so I could tether to my laptop at work since there is no WiFi there. For the first 3 months or so, it worked great, but has steadily gone down to the point that I'm lucky if I have 3G and sometimes the best and most reliable connection I can get is 1x. I have no idea what happened to my data connection, but if someone can prove to me that the problem is with the TBolt and the answer is the Rezound, I'm ready to jump. I just need a phone to tether to that will give me the 4G connection I need and use to have.

Unfortunately as good as the reviews are for the Rezound, apparently it has data issues in reference to tethering as well. There have been many reports from Rezound owners that they lose data altogether only while tethering.

I know. It just makes me laugh, and wonder sometimes, because people get the phone they have been waiting for (such as their current TB) and then a few months later they are talking about how much time is left on their contract to get such and such instead.


I finally saw the Nexus at Verizon last night (went in looking for a charger for my daughter's phone, under warranty, that the guy said wasn't in stock at any verizon in the state so we had to buy a new one).

The screen on it is the same exact size as the TB. I didn't have time to play much. The info sheet mentioned it had the dual core and 1 gig of ram. That's cool.

My TB doesn't lag unless I use it for a long while and it leaves a bunch of programs open. When I close them it is snappy again. It does what I want so I'm fine.


I kept my imagio well past time to renew.
It wasn't until both youtube and facebook did so many upgrades to their websites that the videos stopped playing anymore that I had to dump it.
And it was getting slow with the mods to keep up.

The imagio needed a faster processor and more ram since day one. It would often run out of ram.

I had windows with several phones. They blew it when they didn't make a new phone like I wanted.

The Android is cool, but wow, because it is Google (Government backed/infested) it has a lot of spyware.
