re-flash suggestion over litening rom 6.1

tried recalibration app??

it's interesting you've noticed no difference. villain certainly has a reputation for having impressive battery and lot's sing it's praises. but there certainly seem to be a significant minority who don't see an improvement (and this seems to be the case for those updating to KG5/KH3 stock firmwares as well)

maybe it's an individual combination of what you came from, what apps/widgets you use, and how you use the phone.

are you a heavy user?? my feeling is if you use the phone heavily that different roms/firmwares probably won't have a huge effect on battery longevity anyway

So should i put kh3 back on it and if so whats the link and do i do it exactly the same way i put kg6 on

Here is the file.
Put it on your phones memory.
Reboot into CWM recovery.
Go to install zip from sdcard.
Choose the modem zip file.
Install then reboot.

Hi sydney yea as soon as i put villain rom on i charged the phone fully ans then recalibrated but theres defo no change in improvement and ive frozen quite a few apps

i seem to be going from bad to worse

It is likely to be an app(s) causing battery drain. The ROM and Kernel are one of the best combinations out there for battery life.

good knows whats happening guys, im totally gutted, its taken me ages to get this far trying to get my head around everything and now its just got worse.

i defo wouldnt say im a heavy user more like average user. all i use the phone for is calls/texts watching some of my films ive downloaded and having a browse on the internet but im not on calls and texts constantly or the films and internet all the time

about 15-30mins of internet a day
about 30mins - 2hours for the films a day

. i was doing exactly the same thing before i rooted and id say the battery life was much better

i dont really play on any games and i have only one downloaded game called LETS GOLF 2 but i havent played on it once for about 2 weeks now as im bored of it

i was on the phone again for about 10 mins and it had used 7%

LAST NIGHT i went to bed at 11 and when i got up at 5am to go to work it had used 9% battery

i was on google for about 10 mins earlier today when i was on here writing my posts and it took 12% of me

------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have frozen quite a lot of the apps that were originally installed

in settings - applications - running services,

the only things that are running are

SETTINGS - 16mb
DRM CONTENT - 1.8mb
SOFTWARE UPDATE - 4.4mb
TASK MANAGER - 9.5mb
VOICE COMMAND
DIGITAL CLOCK - 2.0mb
GOOGLE SERVICES - 9.0mb
SAMSUNG KEYPAD - 44mb

i have noticed that everytime i go into task manager and click on ram and clear memory it sometimes says anywhere between 3 and 27 applications closed

----------------------------------------------------------------------
everything i have downloaded from the android market

pocketmirror (full version)
titanium pro key (full version)
mx video player ( as the preinstalled video player doesnt play every type of movie file)
u.s army survival guide
ebay app
smart tools 9 (full version)
brighest flashlight
snes 9x ex emulator - dont really ever use
easy calculator
battery calibration

and i bought the game LETS GOLF 2 HD which i bought from gameloft website.

-----------------------------------

also this internet is really annoying me now as it seems to be sticking all the time, the pages load up pretty quickly but when im scrolling it freezes briefly and then moves slowly and that tilt is barely working at all.

but when i was on the litening rom apart from the battery being the same and it freezing up on me once. i never had this problem and the internet was working spot on,.

im gona try a different internet browser as advicedby sydney like dolphin and opera and see if thats any better , but i dont see why i should need to keep putting more things on the phone which i already have, seems a bit pointless to me

and i have put kh3 modem back on but no difference at all

any ideas on what i should do plz???????

watching films zaps the battery. i remember reading somewhere that you should only expect the battery to last 4 hours if you're watching films.

have you tried juice defender - this app definatley improved my battery. it reckons it doubles my battery life (it gives you an update on how much it saves) - am dubious it's this high, but made a difference for me.

hi sydney yea i agree that watching films will drain the battery, but im also taking into account that its discharging pretty quickly without me watching films

ie using it for messages/calls, internet, and even at night when im asleep and not even using the phone.

and like i said before i rooted i could watch a film for about 40 mins and use about 10% but now it will use about 25% plus percent

also i downloaded opera and dolphin and ive been trying both and it hasnt made much of a difference with regards to the internet problems ive been having! still pretty jumpy and slow

------------------------------------------------------------------------
with the way things are going, it looks like im gonna have to change roms/kernels again to see if something else works better with my phone as i cant keep it like this as the internet is a total nightmare

or

go back to litening where everything worked fine but used the same amount of battery. and possibly try the speedmod kernel with it and see if that makes a difference

or

put my phone totally back to standard how i got it when i got it from virgin but in other thread http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-all-things-root/406610-litening-rom-v6-1-killing-my-battery.html
i couldnt find my original firmware and nobody else seemed to know either,

what about a full wipe then villain rom - it's reportedly got the best battery life of all ??!

sorry sydney, i dont understand what you mean mate ???

It maybe worth doing a full wipe again and reflash villain. There's been odd occasions where I've had problems which have disappeared when I've reflashed. It may also be worth sticking it out as sometimes after recalibrating my battery its drained pretty quickly for the first 4 or 5 days until it sorted itself out.

ok guys il try and flash it all again

so am i doing exactly the same thing over again??
or do i need to do anything different because villainrom is already installed??

also i still have the downloaded villainrom zip still saved in my internal sd memory from before CAN I STILL USE THIS?
OR should i delete this and download a fresh one back on the sd card?

----------------------------------------------------------

is this THE RIGHT WAY HOW TO DO EVERYTHING AGAIN???

step 1 = full wipes =

To do a full wipe turn the phone off. Then hold volume up, power and menu buttons until the phone boots. This will put you into recovery mode. On the first screen you will see wipe data and clear cache. Use volume buttons to navigate, home button to select and power button to go back. You will also need to wipe dalvik cache which you can find in the advanced folder.

step 2 = then do steslatts guide starting from step 3 again

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...shing-firmware-baseband-help.html#post3042252

step 3 = then download ninphet kernel 2.1.3 again via cwm

[Kernel][GPL][XXKG5] NEW SOURCES Ninphetamine-2.1.3 - Now with 100% less Samsungyness - xda-developers

step 4 = recalibrate battery

step 5 = pray

-------------------------------------------------------------

also if i decide to go back to litening can i just REinstall over villain rom the same as before via this guide with odin?

and do a full wipe first before installing it?

OR DO I HAVE TO DO IT ANOTHER WAY?

[ROM] Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3 - Fast as Lightning - xda-developers

Yeah, do everything the same as the first time, and its ok to use the same zip.

To reflash lite'ning just do everything how your first flashed. I've flashed lite'ning over villain without any problems.

ok guys ive decided to try litening rom v6.1 again i did the full wipes first and then downloaded via odin and the phone went into a boot loop on the start up screen. so i did the full wipes again and re-downloaded again and this time it worked so im guessing everything is ok?

this time im gonna try a different kernel instead of the stock 2.0.5+ninphetamine that comes with litening rom xxkh3.

if i download a kernel and i don't find it working very well can i put another different kernel over the top of the last one ?
or do i need to do full wipes again before hand?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I was gonna try either speed-mod there's 2 choices either t32 or t39

which one do i need???

or chain-fire as some people on the forums are recommending it to but not sure which kernel i need???

if i try ninphetamine 2.1.3 again with litening will it freeze the internet like before with the scrolling and the tilt or is it just a case of hit and miss?

and is ninphetamine 2.1.2 any good or can any one recommend some others plz?

thanks guys

have never used litening rom, but there seems to be a lot of support for speed mod kernel and improved battery over niphet (when used with litening rom).

yes, the developer says 2.1.3 will always cause browser lag. not sure on earlier versions.

ok great. its just theres a few people on the xda forums recommending wiping and some say you dont need to, so was just double checking

with regards to recalibration, does the recal only work once you have installed the rom, or do you need to recal everytime with a new kernel?

and when flashing a new kernel does it matter what percentage youre battery is on when flashing

or should you always flash a kernel when 100% fully charged first?

and with regards to usb debugging -should it be on or off?

Personally I have never done a recalibration and my battery is fine. Look in the thread of the kernel you are going to flash, if it recommends a recal then do it, if not then I wouldn't bother.

It doesn't matter what percentage your battery is at when you flash just as long as its not about to die.

Don't think debugging matters, some people say you should have it on but mine is usually off.
