Root re-root after rom change fail

big mick

Newbie
hi guys newbie with a problem

been running my desire for a while now rooted and s-off.
no problems till yesterday.
i decided i would like to try a new rom.
i had installed rom manager from the market a while ago.(i know now bad idea)
anyway i decided to let rom manager download and install leedroid rom.(after doing a backup of course).
it installed but when reebooting got stuck in a bootloop with just leedroid screen again and again..
i managed to boot to recovery and installed the backup and thought everything was fine. my phone restarted and was restored to previous state.
then i noticed i had lost root/no superuser..
so i have since read every thread i can find to try and re-root my phone..

i have tried unrevoked latest version and older in different modes (charge only and disk drive and recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img ) with no joy..
internal error cant find misc.every time..
so i tried revolutionary.and it seemed to have worked but still no root..

i dont know what to do next.
i still have a lot of threads to read through but any help would be very greatfully recieved

cheer

You can't re-root it. Just download (manually from XDA) the same version of leedroid and reflash it via recovery

hmm not so sure, looks like he usb bricked due to using rom manager.

you should read the big sticky saying dont use it

this has happened because your device is using a different recovery to rom managers cwm and as such is not compatible
rom manager is a bad egg for desire anyway.

you may not have the problem with usb brick anymore, to test are you you able to mount as usb drive while booted into android (not recovery) and browse the contents of the sdcard?

if you cant you can fix usb brick easily as you are s-off with revolutionary.
you just need to create an mtd0.img using this site Desire mtd0.img creator
then "fastboot flash misc mtd0.img"
you will need to know what your cid is (can be obtained by doing "fastboot oem boot")

as SU root says,if recovery and sdcard/usb works ok just flash the device with the same version over the top and it should bring it back

DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER

yes i can access sdcard from usb so thats no problem.cheers

looking at my sd card i have tried to install the -__LeeDrOiD-HD-V3.3.3-GB-Port-R5-Data.zip_:o
will it matter thats its a hd rom?

i dont want to try and flash it in case its no good for the desire

thanks guys

mick
flash the rom you had before
dont flash the HD as thats for desire HD

he has roms for both phones

if you are not flashing your old rom back then you will need to wipe device from recovery and then flash a new from

however you may just be able to install superuser from recovery on your current rom if it is not working properly
try flashing this
http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
regards

hi m8
that was the rom i flashed ..i didnt see the hd bit :(.
as i said before this is what caused the bootloop problem ..
i have restored the stock rom from the backup .but i dont have root anymore just s-off..
i tried the superuser file but still no joy. thanks anyway:)

if im reading the right threads one says to downgrade to andriod 2.1 and use older unrevoked to root....but will i still be able to get the phone back to froyo 2.2? last resort option i think:eek:

cheers

mick

No no, what we mean is before you flashed that HD rom, you had another rom which you restored. Its THAT rom you should reflash. The one that previously worked.

you dont need to downgrade mate, you are looking far too deep into this.
if all fails you can flash teppic76 stock rooted rom from xda
just make sure you wipe/factory reset from recovery before flashing

you dont need to use unrevoked at all as you already have a functional recovery
all unrevoked does is push a recovery and apply superuser, you have tried applying superuser and it doesnt work, probably because the backup was made using rom manger and you are trying to restore it with amonRA

sorry m8 i flashed the hd rom by accident ..before that it was the stock (original that came on the phone) rom which i had backed up using rom manager.. then when i made the mistake of flashing the leedroid HD rom.i restored the original one from the backup using recovery ..thats when i lost root and now cant get it back..

rastaman
( you have tried applying superuser and it doesnt work, probably because the backup was made using rom manger and you are trying to restore it with amonRA )

would it be worth reinstalling rom manager and restoreing my original backup with that ???????
i dont understand how if i did a backup of my original rooted rom .then restored my original rooted rom it is no longer rooted.. is it because i used recovery from the boot menu to restore it..it was the only way i could get back into the phone after it went into bootloop...

thats when i went searching and found this amazing place ;)
and found the thread about not using ROM MANAGER:mad: ..
if the only backup i have was made with rom manager then i might need to flash a stock rom thats as close as possible to my original but already rooted is that right??

cheers

mick

ok do i need radio as well?
and when i flash this will i still be able to reinstall my apps and contacts that i backed up using titanium backup. before i made this huge boob:rolleyes:

cheers

mick

no and yes,

however you have already restored the backup havent you? Just rom is broken. When you flash rom, the data that is there will still exist unless you wipe. Since youre going from one stock froyo to another, data should still be compatible.

If you havent already read my rooting faq, I do suggest you do so ;)

read it!! me heads killing me :D i havent tried to absorb this much info since i was in school 20 odd years ago..
anyway do you recommend i forget about my stock backup if its broke and just go ahead and flash the rom i downloaded from xda? do i wipe first or do i need to just install the zip from recovery

im worrying about cocking it up now:(

cheers

mick

I recommend forgetting about it yes.

But dont wipe. Just wipe dalvik cache. Flash rom and see if it boots. It can take upto 10 minutes after a dalvik wipe.

If you clearly see the boot animation stopping and restarting (not just cycling) then thats a boot loop, means you need to go back and wipe. But if you dont need to wipe, your data is all good.

ok m8
i tried to install the rom after doing a dalvic wipe.
but after selecting install zip from sd card and selecting the rom file i get this

istalling: /sdcard/2.10.405.2-initd-rooted-stock-v2.zip

what do i do now help
sorry meant to say ive got revolutionary cwm v4.0.1.4 recovery.

cheers mick

Bah. The easiest way may be to try his gingerbread version, as setting yourself up to convert the script could be long.

Although, fastboot flashing 2.5.0.7 may be a good idea too.

ok m8 downloading the gingerbread rom now
whats this fastbooting idea thing you suggested?
and do i wipe dalvic cache again before trying to flash this 1?

cheers

mick

ok tried the gingerbread rom
same thing again ooopppss

The problem is the recovery. You want to fastboot flash clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 as SUroot has suggested. You can find information on how to do this here: http://androidforums.com/desire-all...fastboot-windows-updated-1st-june-2011-a.html. There's a CWM 2.5.0.7 image in the toolbox thread (blue link in my sig) - look near end of thread for password.

CWM 3 onward only support the newer format of scripting in the zip. 2.5.0.7 supports both old and new, which means you can flash things with CMW 2.5 that you can't with the later ones.

ok done the cwm 2.5.0.7 install.
when i go into recovery vol-down/power.
i get the cwm recovery v2.5.0.7 screen..
but below the reboot system now ect ect ect green options i get in white writing.

clockworkmod recovery v2.5.0.7
E:can't find misc
E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:can't find misc
E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:can't find misc
E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:can't find misc

then when i tried
install zip from sdcard i get
no files found

now im really stumped.
should i do a wipe data/factory reset and try again????????

cheers
