Gave in yesterday afternoon and bought an experia arc. It turned up this morning.
Wow. Amazing beautiful phone.
But still gonna miss my hero
Can you keep us updated in this thread about how you`re getting on with your SE.. I`m still unsure what to get as my upgrade is available in a week or 2 and Orange only have the DHD and SE experia Arc worth looking at. Ta

Will do. First impressions coming up (it's only been a day)...
First of all, it feels really nice to hold. This is gonna sound stupid but it feels... classy. Luxurious. It is also without doubt the nicest looking phone i've ever seen. But of a fingerprint magnet though. It's pretty large, but the thinness negates that, it actually fits better into my pocket than the hero did. Phone seems quick and responsive, no noticable lag.
The camera is amazingly good for a phone, both stills and video, especially after coming from the hero's poor effort. HDMI out is a nice bonus feature. Screen is really nice too - viewing angles apparently arent as good as some phones, but i havent really noticed it being an issue myself. The colour tone is slightly yellow, which i've seen mentioned elsewhere, but i didnt actually notice it until i put it next to the hero,
The only thing really bugging me is the lack of root, which means i can't easily transfer all my apps+data over. Shouldnt be long coming though, people are already the bootloader using sony's portal. There are only 5 homescreens in sony's launcher which is a bit weird - will put launcherpro on it at some point once the novelty and glitz of the sony one wears off.
Battery life, i cant really say yet, as i havent actually left the thing charging long enough to get a full charge into the thing.
So far i'm really happy with it. In terms of raw capability (aside from the camera) i doubt it's much more impressive than a Desire. I also doubt it will hold up as well physically as my hero did - it's not a festival phone by any stretch of the imagination. But so far it's been a joy to use.

Battery life was abysmal for the first few days, was having to charge twice a day. However, after doing a full discharge/charge cycle it's behaving much better - getting a full days use out of it now. Nowhere near what i was getting out of my hero, but this is par for the course for the current gen of big screen, fast cpu phones.
Screen is truly amazing. You can use the phone outside in direct sunlight, something the hero couldnt do, and nor, i believe, can any of samsung's AMOLED phones. Big plus. However, i suspect the screen eats more battery than an AMOLED equivalent.
Also, the phone has now been rooted by those clever people over at xda. Another big, big plus.
Really suggest getting your hands on one before making your buying decision, everybody who has picked up mine has done the whole 'oooh, that's really nice' thing - the thinness and lightness is very impressive.

But isn't it only Froyo, when I upgrade it will have to be the LATEST android.
BTW i'm a business customer on orange too. Don't you find their business customer service is 2nd to none. Can not fault them, whoever I am looking to move away only due to the higher monthly contract prices. Suppose you can't have it both ways.
Upgrade to gingerbread is promised and the Atrix still matches the latest hardware specs. Also the battery life should be better. My Hero battery is about to die and has never been great.
Agree about Orange business - but they have not been briefed on the Atrix yet and could only promise to ring me back when they get any specific info about pre-order as I'm already out of contract. They did me a great deal for the Hero

I notice you have a Nexus S, how does that compare to the above three?
I'm totally happy with my Nexus S - I love the look/feel, it is smooth and responsive - and most importantly for me it was is easy to hack/modify from day one. I feel no need to change for at least a year, but if I was buying now, the only one that would tempt me would be the Galaxy S2. There is no doubt that the S2 has superior hardware (screen, processor, camera, connectivity), but this has to be useful in practice rather than just on a list of specs - for me the NS ticks all the main boxes I need.

Thanks, I'm leaning towards the Nexus S at the mo for the same reasons. I'm not sure if I need HTC sence. However I was always a Sony Ericsson nut before I discovered Android. I've never had any Motorola's.

my Hero has been over used and barely can stay running while I need to do reboots every 2 hours and the battery lasts 10...So which phone should I go for next? I am not sure if I want to go with HTC again since it took forever for my Hero to get the 2.1 update (TELUS). I have had bad experiences with LG before but those were not smartphones so I do not know if they make good smartphones. I have also never had a moto or a samsung phone. I am looking for a phone that will last a long time so probably dual core. So which dual core phone should I get?

You say nothing about what is important to you, or what network you are on. Are you willing to wait a month or two? Samsung galaxy s2, HTC Sensation, Motorola Atrix, LG GX2, Lg optimus 3d, and the Motorola Bionic are all very good phones with dual cores and different strengths and weaknesses.

I am on the TELUS network in Canada. I am looking for a phone that looks like it will be able to last longer than a year and still receive great support when newer/more powerful phones are released. I do not want another Hero which had awful battery from the beginning.
I hope to use a new phone for efficient flash enabled web browsing,high quality games as some have great reviews, lots of apps, an ipod touch replacement, email and facebook. I am looking for a phone that may be able to replace my netbook (I know the atrix has that dock but I am not willing to pay an extra $400 to get the replacement) I am willing to wait a month but two is pushing it as my Hero is getting worse and worse daily

Just upgraded my Hero to the Samsung Galaxy S2.
First impressions:
Fantastic for media
Camera
Lightening quick
Absolutely loved my Hero and still a little sad to be letting it go, however, the Galaxy S2 is defintely a step in the right direction. Still think Sense UI is good and I'm sure the Sensation when its released will give this phone a run for its money.
Before I switch forum, can I just thank everyone, including the Mods for their help......you all made the Hero experience a fond one especially when I de-branded and put a new lease of life into my Hero's aching bones
