This is Supposed to be a friendly site.

I agree.

Please be polite, attack issues, not each other.

I know how this issues sounded to some of you - points have been made on both sides that ought never have made in some cases - when someone makes it unfriendly and personal, please don't reply to them, just hit the !Report button next to the post in question.

No one did that, tempers are high enough, so if everyone calms down, I say we all shake hands and call it squarsies - rather than me handing out infractions?

OK?

~~~~~~~ The issue: Dust under the screen
True - the phones are not sealed.
Not true the OP is just whining for no reason.
This is a known issue at HTC.
When it happened on the Evo, they traced the problem back to a bad batch of glue holding the lcd panel and the touchscreen together - dust could and did creep in, and you get a phone that ends up looking dirty all of the time.
And we're not talking a speck or two here or there - we're talking a serious annoyance. And also important to note that when this happened, many came out of the box that way.
And this isn't just cosmetic - units with dust under the screen typically ended up with the whole front panel lifting up, beginning at the bottom of the screen in one of the corners - again, on the Evo.
So, I'm gonna hope for new Thunderbolt owners' sake that this isn't a widespread problem like it was on a few batches of the Evo - but either way, lemons happen.
OP, nip this in the bud, and lean on Verizon and HTC for your consumer rights.
A POLITE email to HTC, citing this as a known problem with the Evo, is liable to raise a few eyebrows with them. Insist on a new replacement, even though that's extraordinary for your warranty - couldn't hurt.
If you put it to HTC that it's in their best interest to examine your phone to see if the Evo problem has re-appeared, they may well take very good care of you.
Best luck, let us know the outcome!
Hate to tell you but these phones are not sealed. They was right there is nothing wrong with your phone and you will run in to the same answer that you got from Verizon. Its no different if your case was scratched from normal use. Even if you got a new phone dust can still find a way in. You can get an otterbox case that seals all holes in the phone. but with openings anything can get in to the phone. I bet you didnt tell them you rooted your phone. So your not being honest like them saying they dont see the problem.
Only problem is the Otterbox case is not released yet! dont know what the heck they are waiting for? They missed out on all the people who bought this device and then bought a different case, like a Siedio. These are expensive cases and few are going to go an buy a second one. The Otterbox case should have been ready to go BEFORE the T-Bolt even launched. What a gaffe on their part!
Oh I agree. Look at how quick they got the Iphone cases out compared to the D1. I thought they would never release this case. I am sure Verizon would of sent them even a dummy phone to make their case from. The Otterbox case should of been ready even pre-release date so people could of gotten the case ready to put the phone in once they got the phone.
I just brought up the rooting of the phone as he wasn't being honest like Verizon wasn't being honest about not seeing the dust. So he is just as guilty as they was by saying they saw nothing wrong with the phone. I said no where that rooting had anything to do with the dust.
Enough - and this means everyone.
That's making it personal - and I've warned against it...
So I have a very slight issue which Ive been trying to ignore for the past 2 weeks. If I look at my phone in direct sunlight with the screen off, or IF im using the phone at night with the backlight dimmed, I can see dozens of dust particles underneath the screen on the bottom right hand corner. ( at night it looks like dead pixels)
Last night when using the phone I said to myself. I'm going to unroot my phone and get it replaced. So I went to the Verizon store today. No one there would acknowledge or see the problem, and they refused to replace the phone. I insisted that they replace it.
I called Verizon and the rep on the phone told me she could do nothing because the store said there's nothing wrong with my phone.
Ive been with verizon since 1998!. Ive only ever replaced a couple phones because they were completely broken and wouldnt power on or whatever.
I'm so pissed off at them, and I swear I will never go into another contract with them now.
A good feature of most good credit cards is that they can serve as Judge, Jury and Executioner when it comes to things like this. Just protest the charges from the time they refused to exchange the phone as well as the original cost of the phone. Send a certified mail letter to Verizon customer service detailing their breech of your purchase agreement, deliver a copy to the store where you bought it, and CANCEL your Verizon service. Be sure to always refer to your phone in the letter as "defective" and "unusable". They'll bill you for early cancellation. Refer them to letter you sent and refuse to pay. Remember to protest any hits to your credit report. Start a new line of service. If you're a lawyer or have a friend that'll be willing to file a lawsuit pro-bono, make sure that you tell the people at the Verizon store that they will be named defendants in the lawsuit you'll be filing for fraud.
...or you could just deal with some dust on your screen.
Uhhhh...or you could hock it on ebay, buy a new one out of contract and eat the difference.
There is no need for bashing. But I must inform you, you didn't try very hard to get your phone replaced. I had that issue and had mine replaced with no problem. If one person tells you it won't be replaced, hang up and call again. Someone will do it. You can also just say the phone turns off all the time or something to that extent. Be like "My phone has been factory reset numerous times. I took it to a Verizon store and they reset it as well. It just keeps rebooting every few hours. I would like a new phone."
I have never had trouble getting anything replaced with a little pushing and shoving.
...or do this.
...or, there's no reason you could know that running the phone near a high-powered magnet would completely destroy it. If that were to happen, the phone would be unusable, and you'd have no trouble getting it replaced.
