Help Rebooting and now wiped clean

zamboknee

Newbie
My Incredible started rebooting for no apparent reason. The battery was getting severely low and when I'd go to the internet it would just reboot. I finally shut it down completely until I could get home. Got home and plugged in, powered on and it had wiped the entire thing clean.
All my apps are there but they seem to be out of date versions of the apps.
Also, a dialog box appears for pretty much any apps that connect to interent that says 'Sorry! The application Dropbox (process com.handyapps.Dropbox) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Can anyone tell me what's going on? How to fix?

Mine did that for a few days as well. This happened to me a few weeks ago. Are you rooted or running any custom roms? If so, which?

explain 'rooted' and 'running any custom roms' please? I've been running it as it was out of the box.

Did it go back to normal after that few days?

Just for laughs, pull the SD card. Then pull the battery. Replace the card, then replace battery and boot the phone. Don't touch anything until the card fully mounts. May not help but worth a shot.

I pulled SD card, plulled battery, waited a few and then put 'em back in. No change.
Thanks for trying fellow Iowan!

UPDATE: It seems that NONE of my applications will work. I keep getting the 'process com.APP android' message OR the app will appear to start and then just hang.
Android Market won't even launch.
The only exception being 'Double Twist' which seems to be fine.

Sounds like you need to uninstall all of your apps then reinstall them. Or just do a factory reset.

Don't mean to dredge up an old thread, but the OP's situation is exactly like my wife's. We both have Inc's and I've never had any problem. But she started having random reboots a few months ago. It started getting worse and yesterday (6/1/11) it was rebooting almost constantly. Today we found it must've rebooted overnight at some point and wiped out everything, just like zamboknee's did. Even the Sense stuff (clock/weather) is MIA. I'm at work so I suggested to her it's time to take it to Verizon instead of messing with it. They may do the factory reset as mentioned above, or I've seen some instances where they replace with a refurb or new phone. It's very troubling when you're trying to use the phone to have it reboot continuously!! I'm anxious to hear whether zamboknee's problem was resolved with the factory reset. Thanks!

welcome to the forums. This particular problem seems to be semi-common, at least for users of this forum. Factory reset 99% of the time, solves the problem. But sometimes it is also necessary to reformat the SD card. Good luck with your wife's phone and report back with any other/more problems you might have.

First time this has happened to me today, everything wiped from my homescreens.

All my apps are still there and appear to be working... just weird.

Im stock rooted, just removed some of the bloatware.

My wife went to the Verizon store and was as surprised as I to learn they've had customers coming in "in droves" about this reboot problem. They feel it was due to the Lookout software running on her DInc. They removed that software and rebooted the phone, reprogrammed (*228). However, the stock Sense clock/weather widget was gone, nowhere to be found. So they punted and installed something from the market. I took a look this evening and the HTC Sense is not among the apps in any way! But the phone hasn't rebooted at all. It's weird because I am running Lookout and have never had any issues (yet!). If her problems resurface, I'll try the factory reset as sdrawkcab25 suggested. Should I do it backwards?? J/K LOL!!

I don't think it's lookout. I've been running it since day 1. I'm surprised a stock phone will even run without Sense. If that's truly the case, and if you undergo ANY other oddities, I'd be doing the factory reset sdrawkcab mentioned sooner rather than later.

@iowabowtech: I agree 10000%. I am basically a noob when it comes to phones but I can't see how Lookout could cause rebooting. And I can't see how Lookout could also remove some of the stock Sense apps. Not just remove them from the screen, but remove them from the device! Something else going on and if we see the phone reboot again I'll do the factory reset and start fresh. Like you, I've also been running Lookout for a long time and have had ZERO issues.
