Root recommend me a ROM, my prefs below

I am a new rooter on 2.2.

I want something easy to install without getting into new kernals, hopefully the least amount of fiddling around.

I want something that is awesome with battery life. that is my #1 concern.

speed is not so important to me.

something that is close to Sense

is virtous for me?

I think Virtuous is probably the closest to stock minus the bloat. As for battery life, the ROM itself has little to do with it. Aside from the removal of the bloat, the base OS is the same, so it comes down to what apps are running that are going to chew battery. Using custom kernels, and underclocking via SetCPU is going to give you a noticeable increase under most circumstances.

I should also add that with virtuous, you can have it install the custom kernel as part of the install via ROM Manager, so you don't even have to take the extra step to do it manually. And I have found battery life to be fantastic with the custom kernel. I'm at about 27.5hrs up with 1.5hrs awake and still at 59% on my seidio 1750 right now.

Yeah if you're ultra concerned about battery life, you may actually consider underclocking. SetCPU will allow you to set up profiles to increase the underclock as your battery life decreases to allow max run time.

The new Virtuous 2.7 ROM is for you , and with battery life get SetCPU from the Market think it's $1.99

Underclock to 921mhz (you won't even notice a diffrence in speed under normal conditions)
Setup Profiles to set the CPU to run at 384 max & 245 min when the screen is off

You should be able to get 24hrs of battery out of the stock battery and very fast performance . There are some really cool themese too

cool, thanks all. so will this be self evident when I go to install, or is there anything special I need to know?

Yeah virtuous ought to get you what your looking for. I tried underclocking it for a few days there was no noticeable battery life gain. The battery gain comes from a screen off profile in setcpu like Jim stated. At least this was my experience. Virtuous is really nice streamlined and very much like stock but faster. Also give SkyRaider Sense a try I find it is just as polished, smooth, and fast as Virtuous. I used the custom kernel for virtuous and after trying out 4 different kernels realized this was the one for me. Installing it is as simple as downloading it, putting on root of your SD card, and flashing/installing it through clockwork mod recovery. NO data wipe, but it might be a good idea to wipe dalvik cache. Some do some don't ymmv. Do a backup before installing anything! ;)

Everyone considers bloat differently - For example some think Skype is bloat, but I find it a useful tool to make free overseas wifi calls to family.

Which leads to my question -

Is there a list of what is removed in Virtuous / list of what apps&widgets come with Virtuous?

Yeah, and he created a script that you can run via ROM manager called ez-customizor to re-add/delete the stuff. Check his site/changelog www.virtuous.com

I went through the website but did not see a list of apps removed upon installation or any sort of list that says what apps & widgets comes installed.

I agree Virtuous is very stable, fast, and great battery life. I love 2.7 with the battery percentage in the battery!
