Help Recovering missing contacts?

My phone is in the process of dying (Verizon is sending a refurb), and yesterday I noticed that a substantial portion of my contacts were suddenly missing. Any suggestions on possibly recovering these?

Are they "phone" contacts or "Google" contacts? If you have all your contacts assigned as phone contacts, switch the remaining ones to Google before you lose more. I'm not sure what to suggest to recover them if your phone is in spiraling death syndrome.

If it's just a problem with Google sync perhaps, access your gmail account online and see what contatcs still exist there. If they are all accounted for, don't worry about it. They'll come back with a fully functional phone.

my wife's phone just went thru a similar situation today.

her contacts disappeared, but some things remained, like the app icons on her pages. but when she clicks on the icons, it says the app is missing (or something similar).

she saved them as phone contacts, so i think she's SOL.
