Root Recovery and ROMs

true .
Any body have information about upcoming roms and working recoveries ?

I've read that the LG Revolution recovery is being ported.

I'm VERY curious to see how compatible these two phones are - once we have recovery I'd like to tinker trying a revolution ROM to to see how much it would take to get one to work.

Funny thing is that even LG left a Verizon shutdown audio file (presumably from the Revolution) on the Esteem.

I changed my power on sound yesterday, and i saw that in their.lol

God i hope thats good news on recovery,im working with playfulgod to see if he can port recovery for the esteem, but we've hit a wall we cant get the
cat /proc/mtd. no mtd we dont know the boot size, recovery, ect.
WOULD LOVE HELP ON THE ABOVE PROBLEM.

Did the Revolution ever even get updated to 2.3? Because a 2.2 recovery or ROM obviously isn't going to work.

Hey, I have got most all of the mount points and they are all the same as the Revo. Hit me up on pm at xda and we can chat.

Yeah, our phone is better than stock Revolution at this point because we have 2.3 and they don't yet.:p

When they get 2.3 (thanks to our phone files being uploaded), then we can all share in ROM goodies.

sorry to burst your bubble, but the Revolution already has 2.3... And i'm pretty sure its an official release too.

Sorry to burst your bubble, you have no clue. :p Research before you post, please. Saves you embarrassment.

That's why all the LG Rev guys wanted our files, to MAKE a 2.3 ROM for their phones. Our LG Esteem is a refresh of the LG Revolution and it has 2.3 out of the gate. LG never released 2.3 for the Revolution.

I am willing to do any type of dumps or testing of roms or recovery with my esteem! Just need someone to send a link of how to do it or pm me

This is going to come across as me being an arsehole - that's not my intention, but still it probably will seem that way.

If you're needing directions on how to do it, you're probably not the best candidate for testing. Lots of things can go wrong and the lack of experience may send you climbing the walls in a panic mode if something goes wrong!

Too true. As much as I want to contribute to testing and being a guinea pig, I really rather not run the risk of bricking my phone. Which the warranty probably won't cover and may have to claim it as "lost" and pay a deductible($100+) for a new one.

I'd wait for a stable recovery.

As of right now I know of 3 people willing to do the work for getting a proper working recovery. The only problem is none have an esteem, so there will need to be testers. Can bad things happen, yes, but 99 times out of 100 it can be saved. So volunteers would be awesome! Just let me know! Thanks!

99/100 is believable having similar experiences with my Moto Droid. Hell, I'll take the risks if it helps get us a working recovery.

I'm in. pm me or whatever.

Ya, if we push a bad recovery it will brick into fastboot. We should be able to fastboot push the stock recovery to get it to work again. Also, one of our Revo guys is trying to get the full system file that can recover 99% of bricks.

I want in on that program that will unbrick ur phone.

I mean i know how to do alot with android i just dont know enough of how to adb all the way but i have rooted and played with just about every android phone around

Since you can access recovery, then it sounds like it has messed up the boot.img. You will have to find the proper fastboot drivers and push the stock boot.img. I've got a copy of the stock boot.img if you need it.

recovery has nadda to do with the OS version ;)

I have a CWM built, but, I'm not sure on the partition sizes like thevistor said. I think I got em right, but not confident in em like I am with mtd.

I also have the esteem src code and working on a custom kernel for it.

Question, has anyone tried overclocking the stock kernel with any oc apps?

from what I can tell from the src it should be able to oc to 1.4 w/o modding. Thus far all I've done is added the needed lines so the cpufreqs broadcast so CM can see em.

I also plan to dig thru the android src and see if may give away any needed info. Mostly looks like patches for vanilla android src.

I have the esteem and also stuck in Boot Loop, I was able to hold the vol buttons down and get to the factory reset and thats it... reset and boot loop... how can I push the OTB Rom ( which I dont have ) on it when i cant get it to stay on long enough to connect to my computer? I need help becuz was just gonna turn it in for a new one at metro becuz its still within the 30 day warrenty!
