Root Recovery change

Hi all :)

I've rooted my phone using Unrevoked 3.21 but I didn't get a choice of which recovery image I wanted to flash (probably as my phone was connected?)

I intend on flashing Insertcoin 2.1/3.0 Stable rom

I now have ClockworkMod but would prefer AmonRa (which I have already downloaded) as I understand I can partition my card to EXT4 using AmonRa, is that correct?

Am I right in thinking it's just a case of copying this to my SD card and flashing it from recovery??

Many thanks in advance for all your help :D

you need to choose custom recovery before you plug in the device
run it again to change it.

you can use amonRA to do this but we recommend using gparted via vmware as it aligns the partitions correctly

I think you flash the recovery image through fastboot or adb. You cant flash a recovery through another recovery. I'm sure this will be confirmed for me.

You can't adb push recovery. You either have to fastboot flash (s-off) or use unrevoked, selecting recovery BEFORE connecting the device, as per the rooting guide linked in my sig.

As Rasta said, we prefer gparted with VMware. Also in my signature.

Cheers Shauny but I'll stick with ClockworkMod. I was only going to use AmonRa as I thought it was better for partitioning but if using gparted is recommended I'll do that.

Thanks all

I was going to do the same thing myself, when i did it. But SUroot said gparted was better as it aligns the partitions better. (Listen to him or Rasta, they know their stuff).:)

Ok...just when you thought it was safe, I have another question.
I've been following your guide SUroot on using Gparted, but when I get to section 8/9 I don't get the option to "store Virtual disk as single file" as both options are greyed out! does this matter?

What if you do step 10 first (without pressing next)? I may have just put it in in the wrong order

Hi, I think you've got it in the right order.
I name the VM, click next and it's the "Specify disk capacity" window where it asks what size, I enter 0.5 but "Store virtual disk as a single file" and "Split virtual disk into mutiple files" are both greyed out?
The "split disk" option is selected by default and I can't change it!
Any ideas? :)

What if you put 0.5 in then hit the tab key? It doesnt really matter which option you pick to be honest. Its just preference for me into single file, but on a disk this size it makes no difference anyway

Just tried that and it jumps straight to the help button, back, next etc.
Oh well I'll carry on as it is.
Whilst you're there can I tap you up for another quick question :)
Once partitioned, am I right in thinking I then do a full wipe and then go for flashing the rom? I've read the guides and think I've got it straight but a bit nervous. Just wanna check :)

You should do a full wipe before flashing the rom of your choosing, yes. Dont forget to back everything up first.

I recommend:

Nandroid via recovery
User apps via titanium
SMS via sms backup+ or Mybackup pro

You may also want to backup apns.

A big thank you to you all....I'm now running Insertcoin :) I would've posted earlier but been too busy playing with my new toy
