Root [RECOVERY][EVO4GLTE] TWRP 2.6.1 with on-screen keyboard!

I had a good download, bad flash through Goo Manager and that was after two failed attempts.

Recovery worked fine but my phone was pants.

Fastboot flash fixed it. :)

And I can already hear you, so shush! :p :D

I didn't want to go near my pc today. :o

I read the XDA rhread.

As for right now fastboot flash is the only way to get the update, as far as I know.

Did you post anything to the TeanWin site?

Nah.

We all know why fastboot flashing is better.

For all the times that Goo Manager has worked for me, it was just a matter of time before I was going to hit a bad download or bad install. :)

PS - md5 passed on my Goo Manager download so it wasn't that. It's the same file that I downloaded to my pc to fastboot flash.

Looks like they are up to 2.6.3 now.

From the TWRP site.
"...What's new in 2.6.3.0:

  • Proper backup and restore of SELinux contexts (thanks to Tassadar)
  • Pull in some ROM information for backup name generation
  • Merge all recent patches from AOSP bringing TWRP up to date with Android 4.3
  • Add 1200x1920 theme (thanks to Tassadar)
  • A few other fixes and tweaks
What's new in 2.6.1.0:

  • Initial SELinux support (only a few devices, need testers so come by IRC if your device doesn't have it and needs it)
  • Initial support for f2fs file system formatting (Moto X)
  • Update SuperSU install for 4.3 ROMs
  • Fixed a permissions bug on files created during backup
  • Fixed a bug that caused TWRP to not wait for compressed backups to finish causing 0 byte files and md5sums to not match
  • Fixed decryption of encrypted data so that both TouchWiz and AOSP decryption are possible
  • Ignore lost+found folder during backup and size calculations
  • Various other minor bug fixes and tweaks... "

Dunn question of the week (figured I'd start earlier. Related to TWRP.

My last two nandroids lead to bootloops. Can't figure out why; they were both created with TWRP. I'm able to use a real old nandroid, just not the latest I've made. Any thoughts from the experts?

I should admit: I'm on an old version of TWRP (2.2), but I wonder why that would be a problem? I'm sporting Badseed ROM.

I also assume updating TWRP via Goo is as simple as flashing new recovery, correct?

Thanks!

Goo is simple. If it doesn't work, fastboot flash it.

It's entirely possible that the nandroid restores were failing. I had a number of problems with restores cured by a later revision of TWRP. I was surprised because the backups were fine after all. No promises in your case but it mattered to me.

Also - are you s-off? If not, the boot image (with the kernel) won't likely restore properly, and a kernel / rom mismatch easily leads to bootlooping.

Finally - it's possible to get a bad recovery flash. Not common but it happens.

Begin by updating TWRP and no other changes for say, a day or two. If your phone runs weird, re-flash TWRP.

In that case run, don't walk, to updating TWRP.

The earlier versions for me would back up to the external SD card but only restore *mostly* reliably from the internal sdcard partition.

Pay close attention to the wipe screen - the main selection is a factory data reset, so choose the advanced option when you want to just wipe cache and Dalvik.

The bars to let you choose backup names and navigate are slender but those gray bars work and are mighty handy.

Also worth noting that it now sports a screen saver (that you can turn off) so don't panic if your screen goes dark during nandroiding. I did the first time. :D

All looks good. Made two nandroids with the updated TWRP, one each on internal and sd card. Haven't tried restoring either of the Nandroids, but I was able to reboot without bootlooping, which I wasn't able to do the last time.

As always, thank you.
