Root Recovery locked up phone

Hi all

I read through quite a few of the threads on here and decided to take the leap of loading a custom rom.

1)Started with a unlocked X, using the Z4? app. had go launcher ex installed.
2)Installed droid x bootstrap, and followed rooolers guide and created a backup.
3)downloaded apex 1.4.1 onto my sdcard.
4)ran bootstrap and deleted cache and data, then installed apex.
5)phone booted up correctly, no problems.
6)played with apex for a bit and redownloaded bootstrap and decided to go back to my backup for now.
7)started bootstrap went and found my backup and started restore.
8) phone is stuck on bootstrap with restoring data... 587c5e79 stuck on screen for the last 20 min.

Not sure what to do now. any help would greatly be appreciated.

Things I did not do.

1) Did not root the phone after installing apex.
2) Did not delete cache and data before restore.

Not sure if the above is the cause of my problem.

These shouldn't make a difference. Did you do a battery pull?

OK, have went to bootloader two more times, and always stops at the same file in the first post. Cleared cache to see if that made a difference, and it did not. Hope maybe someone else has had this problem. I'm open to any suggestions.

It really sounds like your backup got botched, its happened to me a time or two and my phone acted exactly like you describe. If you'd like to return to stock search Google or the forum for "maderstcok".. type it just like that its not a typo lol.. flash it just like you flashed ApeX.

It will unroot you so after you flash it don't do ANYTHING else in recovery just go to 'reboot' nothing else.

For the record you do NOT have to reroot after a normal ROM flash.

What "phase" or the restore does it freeze on? It should say something like "Restoring system...Filexx.file"

If it's the "system" type, then you're all good. Run maderstcok.zip, load up, root, go into recovery, then go to restore then advanced then restore data. It will have all your apps, texts, etc on a fresh install.

EDIT: Man, I need to learn to read. Your data is corrupt, no the system. You MAY be able to restore everything EXCEPT for data. Wipe like normal, then advanced restore system and cache NOT data.

If you want to back up anything from your CURRENT set up, you need Root Explorer. THEN run maderstcok for a CLEAN set up.

Thanks for the follow ups. I rebooted after deleting data and cache, and it booted up to what looked like stock blur. I reinstalled my apps and imported contacts and I think I am back to where I was at before all of this happened.

Would like to try some of the roms, but with a corrupted backup like I had, I am a little weary of trying it. Should I make a couple of backups, and try again. Or should I do a complete clean set up.

It depends on what you're concerned with saving. For me, all I save is text messages.

So, when I install something new, I backup (In case I REALLY hate the ROM), wipe, install, boot, then - while Google is doing it's thing - I restore my texts/apps not in market.

It takes like 20 minutes and my phone is up, running, exactly how I like it.

I keep 2 backups of 100% stock and 2 of my everyday setup, but to be honest I have flashed alot of ROMs and restored alot of backups and rarely have I had a problem like this (like I said above, only once or twice in my rooting career).

So at the end of the day it just comes down to what makes you feel more comfortable.
