Root Recovery Mode Help

[Encerspay]

I'm currently in Recovery Mode on my Optimus V, trying to flash a custom kernel.
I'm a total noob, anyone want to help me out on what I should do to flash it?
I tried clicking "install zip from SD card" but it didn't do anything but show the ClockWorkMod logo, then I had to go back to the original menu. Help???

Use the camera button to select.

What button are you using to select the item? Some buttons hide the menu options and only show the logo. I believe its the home button and power button that hide the text.

CWMod recovery's and it's variations use the camera key to make selections , with the exception of the New Green-Recovery by JerryScript which uses the home key.
The Xionia recovery uses either the home or menu key. If you try one and the screen goes black just select it again to get back to the menu. Then Use the other one.
With any other recovery you will just have to try one. If no go, hit it again and try another.
