Help Recovery Problem!! Help!

DarrylFC

Newbie
I have a Motorola Droid running 2.1.-Update 1 that is not rooted, nor has it never been rooted, and I can't get into recovery mode. (I'm trying to manually instal0 2.2, and I don't want to root)
My problem is that I can't get unto recovery mode. I pressed X at the boot up, and the phone freezes on the 'M' logo and does nothing. The phone boots perfectly fine and works perfectly fine, but the inner geek in me wants to fix this because it's a function of my phone that is not working.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Hmmm.. I've never heard of recovery problems with non-rooted phones. If you're truly unable to get into it, you might have to flash a stock SBF, which you can do from the bootloader. Are you holding X and then pressing power while keeping X held down?

Yeah I'm holding down X while I press power. My finger is starting to get a bit sore from holding it down. How do I go into the bootloader and flash a stock SBF?

The odd part is that I manually update from 2.1 to 2.1-update 1 without problems months ago when the update came out.

Thank you for the response, I'm happy to accept any suggestions!

thats weird as its something that occasionally happens to rooted users but dont know how it could happen without trying to flash a new recovery.

To get into the bootloader you have to hold up on the keyboard. The by up I mean hold the direction on the Dpad that is toward the screen/capacitive buttons

Awesome, I have access to bootloader, and I found the following webpage.... Video: Flashing SPRecovery SBF to Stock 2.1 | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Would this be the correct path for me to take? (I feel like a child.... I can build computers and do basic programming, but I feel helpless when it comes to this Droid. Thank you both again for your help.)

That video has the correct general idea but is using a file that isnt going to help you if you want to stay stock.

Check out this thread about 3/4 of the way down under reverting to stock

Not this will wipe your phone

Thanks for the link, I'm checking it out now.

Here's a funny thought, what if I use the above process, but flash with a stock recovery for 2.1.-Update 1??? In theory, that would keep it stock.....

Or I am just foolish?

Someone would have to make a sbf file with just a stock recovery in it. So far the SPRecovery sbf is the only sbf I have ever heard of that was made by someone other than motorola. So I would say its not going to happen anytime soon

On the page you sent me, unless I am mistaken, there is a section that states "how to revert back to Stock 2.0 2.0.1, or 2.1, and in there is a file named VZW_A855_ESD56_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.01P_SW_UPDATE_03. sbf

Wouldn't that be the stock file you are referring to? If not, I'll put SBrecovery on here and use it in place of the stock recovery file... as long as my phone still works, I really don't care.

That file takes you back to completely stock 2.0.1. Its not just a recovery. It will wipe your phone back to a just out of box state

That may be my only option then. it cetainly doens't hurt getting rid of some of my junk anyway, and I know that google has all my contact info in the cloud.

So it's working fine now, update installing as expected. I went ahead and used Slite to do a wipe of the phone, I didn't lose much thanks to Google's "cloud".

Thank you everyone for your help... sorry to be annoying about it.
