Root Recovery question

brotherswing

Android Expert
My Optimus has the older Novatek screen, and I have CWM3 3.2.0.1 as my recovery. I know about the issues with CWM and ROM Manager with our phones. Would it be in my best interest to switch back to the Xionia recovery? Or should I not worry about it, since CWM seems to play nice on my phone? Seems to me the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality should apply, but I know that some people have had problems and I'm just trying to be proactive in stomping any bugs before I get bitten. What do you guys think?

If you have the Novatek screen and installed the recovery from ROM Manager your fine. I personally think the aospCMod version that's recommended in the github works better. I'm currently testing the new BobZohme modified CWMod recovery found in the same place and am liking it even better than the aosp version and it works with all functions in ROM Manager as it does with all CWMod recovery's.

I've been using blarfs recovery since it was released and have been great but I've heard some say it doesn't work for them. I do have an older version of the phone I got it at the beginning of the year.

Well, I trust Bob more than ROM Manager, so I may try that one. I've also learned a lot since I started this adventure.

Blarf's recovery works on some phones, but doesn't work on others because of the minute imperfections in the CPU. I have OS version 2.2.1 with a less than perfect CPU and it didn't work.
The higher you can get away with overclocking, the better your chances of being able to use Blarf's recovery.

Hey Andy, sorry to barge in here...I'm just wondering if you can confirm that the recovery I ended up putting on my phone was indeed the Bob Zhome? I was pretty sure, but wanted to double check. It is the VM670NH downloaded from github:

New Info: BobZhome built a version of IHO recovery with a kernel compatible with the newer OV screens.
Now uploaded to the wiki. IHO-Recovery-Works-With-New-Screens

That may be why I can run so high and stable. I never did find a max I got to 844 which I use time to time and was to nervous to go any further.

Meanwhile, mine starts rebooting itself if I push much past 800. I'm just going to stick with what I've got, it works and there doesn't seem to be any benefit to changing right now.

brotherswing, I can empathize with you wanting to prophylactically choose the right recovery...believe me, I wish I had known then....well, you get it, LOL. cheers!
Yes, I verified by going to github and selecting the download link thats given. The download page says VM670NH_recovery.img
